So my 71 Bug has been in my Garage 3 years posing as a catch all shelf. Last week I got her out on the road and she was spitting, spatting, cussing yes there were a few bad words coming from her   and people were actually pointing at us. I stopped to get gas. I used the mid grade gas cause only the best for her and VAROOM she stood up like a real soldier and was flying I tell you we were getting it down the road she never missed a beat. I could not have been prouder if it had been my first grandchild. She was SPEEDING down Mission Ridge road!!! I wish a Police had seen us I would have been tickeled   Now if I'd had brakes everything would have been purfection :occasion5: ect ...I'm guessing 3 year old gas does not work well.

Awesome magic gas.  I need some of that.   When i plugged a hole in Stupies gas tank I dropped about a golf ball worth of JP weld in the tank.  I think the Jp is disolving , My gas has turned a blue gray ,  I can't imigine it hurting anything.  Cheers.  SC

Jb weld will not hold on a gas tank....trust me. Eventually it will disolve and leave you with a parking lot full of flamible bug. oh and it will wait for you to fill up to do it.

Yep, your old air-cooled engine will get sick and cough, gag, gasp and puke if you make it drink old gas.  I've tried it before and got about the same results you did.  And on the JB weld in the gas tank . . . If a Super Beetle tank starts leaking, buy a new tank.  I tried every kind of patch out there, including grinding it down to bright shinny metal and soilder a patch on it.  Every time, I got it to hold gas, it would spring a new leak, just like 67Bugnut said, the next time I filled it up.
