My FIRST VW Speeding Ticket - Well, almost.

« on: December 15, 2002, 11:59:36 PM »
I was on my way home from Herb's tonight after spending the afternoon with Lamar and Herb sandblasting rods for our Bug-A-Paluza trophies when it happened . . . passed a county policeman doing 51 in a 35.  I slowed down before I got to him, but he had already clocked me.  He pulled out behind me and followed me for about a half mile until we came to a place I could pull off and then he turned on the blue light.  He took my license and insurance card and went back to his car to write up the ticket.

A couple of minutes later he came back with the paperwork.  He asked if I was in that group that was at the Food Drive last week.  Yep, that was my club.  "I think it's great that y'all do that."  Then he explained the proceedure for paying the fine and/or contesting it in court . . . hands me my license and insurance card and says something like "You need to slow down.  I'm giving you a ticket for the tail light you have out.  The speeding ticket would be well over a hundred dollars and I don't want to do that to you . . . just make sure you slow down."

OK, now I don't know if the candy cane on the antenna, the bows on the door handles, hood, and deck lid, and the fact that he had seen us on TV at the Food Drive had anything to do with not getting the speeding ticket . . . but I sort'ta think it did.

Good job, Zen!
I have story too...actually it is Linda's story, but it was my fault that she got the ticket.
I had replaced the slipping clutch in Molly, our '71 Fastback a few years ago.  On the initial test drive, with Linda at the wheel, we just had to test out the new clutch.  On East Brainerd Road, around about the stretch of road where the new Apison Elementary School is now located, I told Linda to give it all she could to see the difference in the new clutch from the old one.  Just as she did, high beams flashed at us from the side of the road.  Yep, Mr. Policeman was sitting in someone's driveway and caught us dead to rights.  She got a ticket for 69mph in a 45mph zone.  With the smell of doughnuts still on his breath, he informed us that he had clocked her at over 75mph, but was going to "let us off easy, this time.
Only one good thing came out of this experience...we were able to notice that the clutchwork had greatly improved.

Why is it that everyone who tells a police story (almost) has to get the doughnut thingy in there?     LOL      Zen, I'm truly sorry you got a ticket on the way home. Were you still in TN or was it in GA?

It was in Catoosa County on Burning Bush Road.  (Burning Bush Road is Deitz Road after it crosses Battlefield Parkway and before it turns into Long Hollow Road)

:O  If you are in or going through Catoosa County GA, MAKE SURE your tail lights are working!  Their fine for a tail light violation is $125 . . . and regardless of the situation & whether or not you have the light fixed, you WILL have to pay the full $125.  If you get a ticket for a tail light violation, don't waste your time going to court, just cough up the money, pay the fine, and be done with it.  Two other people before me were in the same situation, produced evidence of the tail light being fixed and we all three had the same result . . . we paid a $125 fine.

I wonder what the speeding ticket would have cost me?  ???

I have heard the rumor that if you go to divorce court in Georgia, the judge looks over his glasses at the man in front of him and states "do you have any DREAMS boy?????????  I want them too!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The speeding ticket would have probably cost you your first born..................especially after the tail light ticket costing $125.

Maybe our fee grabers in Collegedale and Benton aren't as bad as I thought.         LOL
