I bought my 1967 Bus a little over a year ago. After getting it home I started rumaging through some parts and papers that were in the parcel tray. I discovered I had the original window sticker, the first owners loan papers dated Aug 19 1967 and every service document from day one. Midfield Volkwagen was printed on the window sticker and the owners manual. Being a 5 year resident of Birmingham while in college I knew that Midfield was just minutes west of B'ham. After driving the bus to its first club meeting I discovered that it had some generator issues and broke down on Mack Smith Rd. on the way back home. My newly aquired bus now had a name "Mack". Over the past year I have only had to do some routine maintanence to keep him on the road. Knowing that 2007 would be Mack's 40th birthday, and of all months August was the Birmingham Bug Blast I knew I had to take him back home for the weekend. Well I have to be honest, I trailer queened him down to the hotel room friday night, mainly becuase of the heat and if you have ever driven down I-59 you know that its not the smoothest of trips. We did drive him to the Show. The show was great! It was a little hot, but just when you thought you couldn't handle it anymore a light shower passed by and kind of cooled everything off. Mack got the best birthday present ever with a FIRST place finish as a stock type 2. After the show we drove to the address that was listed on the owners manual to see what may still be there. It was a vacant building that had last been a Dodge dealership. The building had an older architecture style so it just could possibly be the same building that Mack was originally sold from, if not it was at least the right address. So Mack got to go home for his 40th Birthday and was also recognized for his sustained originality!
Way to go Mack and Happy 40th Birthday!! :occasion4:
