I assume that the driver was going to fast and my top thought it could fly... the frame is broken in to many pieces ad the top is torn in several places...

I folded the top back a bit today and sat in the driver seat... cranked him up and thought hell i will drive it with the top sitting there like that for now... then i remembered that i had a blown tire

I was thinking it looks like he backed up his truck and caught a low hanging tree limb that attacks things!

It still looks pretty good. I guess he forgot to pressurize the cabin. Your's may have broken a land speed record for a Thing!

It's actually REALLY rusty along the frame rails thanks to a PO mounting wood on the sides... but the floors are solid and it had a nice top... and it ran... so i bought it... i wouldnt have paid nearly that much if the top weren't perfect :(

I would be looking into the tow company and at least ask them what happened,  i've seen tow truck drivers tear up alot of things on cars,  like hooking the tow chain up to the axle on my 96 gti,  some how it only ripped the boot.  I'd rather fix it on the side of the road than call a tow truck,  i'm not sure if i could get the lowered beetle on the tow truck.

I wasn't really sure where to find a tire to replace the shredded one in the middle of BFE GA on a sunday afternoon... and was an hour away from anyone i thought may have a spare wide five rim lying around...

The windows were not in it..... that's the first thing i see.  that much wind, interstate speeds, even a small amount of weak top fabric.... i think that's all that happened.

Had nothing to do with the fabric... everything to do with improper loading of my car on a flat bed... the only tears in the fabric are where the metal pieces of top punched through and where the rear window "shattered"

The windows were in the trunk...

Either way... the tow truck company will be responsible... Too bad for them their driver wasn't paying attention to stop after the lock on one side broke... he let it ride until the metal on the other side ripped...

Regardless of the extra wind from being up on the flatbed, I think he was hauling to get that to happen...

No,  i would have demanded a new top,  they are easy to install,  sounds like you need some top frame repair though.
