A deer jumped over Stupie

« on: May 30, 2009, 11:57:14 AM »
Wow,  I alligned my wheels with a t-square, Frank was helping  as a spotter/eye ball wheel  aligner.  After making sure the bolts were tight ,  we went for a ride.  I got Stupie ( Red 71 Super beetle) up to 55mph.  I guess having both wheels angled about the same  reduces the steering wheell from shaking out of ones hands ... at least for today.   We zoomed up and down 27 and then turned up West Reed road toward my house..

Its a steep 200 yard incline, so I'm climbing up in 4th,  then 3rd ,   I'm thinking on going to 2nd.      I'm half way up the hill and this little blue Honda comes over the crest of the hill.   So Stupie is climbing the hill and slowing down while the Honda in gaining speed  towards me.   To the right of us,   a big Deer is doing a sprint toward the road, were Frank, Stupie and the Honda happen to be..  Then things go in slow motion. Frank had a better view of things being a passenger.    As  Stupie and the blue Honda are about pass each other,  the deer Jumps over Stupie and lands on the windshield of the Honda.  Smack.  the honda stops,  Stupie stops,  the deer is in motion and hurt bad,  The Honda had 2 women in the front seats and 3 kids in back.  The Kids are crying.  I'm  thinking,  did this just happen?   I stay a while  with the Honda folks.  They are all OK..  They call some friends, who arrive in a few minutes.   I decide its time to go before the cops arrive. Frank says we have good luck.    SC

I grew up about a 1/4 mile from there (where the place that sells metal is at today) . . . there was nothing but woods between Hwy 27 and Straight Gut Road ( YES, THAT REALLY IS THE NAME OF THE ROAD! ) on the right side of West Reed Road.  I lived there from 1970 - 1980 and NEVER saw a deer or a skunk anywhere in the area.  It was rare to even see a rabbit or squirrel.  Now that all the woods have been replaced with subdivisions, I see deer and skunks spattered all over the road there all the time.  I almost hit a coyotte one night just about 100 feet south of West Reed. :?

JRCnova,  I did try to get the deer to a nice freezer.  there is a family in the hood that always is skinning things in the front yard, .   It is really disgusting to be all clean and driving to church and you pass thier house and they are doing the deer cleaning thing .

I stopped at that house  on the way home and told the wife hoping her husband could shoot the deer,  But the Husband was not home and she would call him.     When I posted  this story,   it had just happened,  at about 1:00 pm  the deer was still there.  at 6:pm  it was gone.   How long does a deer stay fresh?

Maybe this one of those "Raindeer Games" we've heard about for so long.  This deer was a little better at it . . .

Lamar had one try to jump over the cab of the truck last week.  Fortunately no harm done to the truck or the deer.  It was a small one and didn't have enough height to make it above the door.  The deer was stunned but got up and jumped on off the side of the road.
