If you get tired of it let me know...I have had a good deal of experience with them .  The rotary is a cool engine but it doesnt do sitting around very well...The apex seals are easy to damage and are just as important as piston rings, a good size chunk of carbon that breaks free can wipe them out, and they leak coolant like a wasserboxer. The 12a is carbed and the carb will cause a TON of problems!  It has a electric fuel pump and a return type fuel system..it does have a drain plug on the gas tank, you may want to start there...We had a 84 in the shop a few months ago that sat for several years it was a 12a also and the fuel tank was totally full of crap, the fuel pump was dead and the filter was clogged.  After all that the carb needed to be rebuilt...Thats when we found that the carb kits for em are getting hard to find. You can find all the info you want on rx7club.com but careful what you post there, they kinda make the vw vortex look nice   You can always check out engineswap.com for the dangerous life...just don't bring it up on the rx7club

Great info Rick,   its been sitting,    the tank was dry and  I had a few gallons  of dirty lawnmower gas.  So I poured it in the tank.  I'm  going to see If I  can pump it though the  lines to  a pickel jar   and flush out what every is in there.

loose'nd the spark plugs  and poured Marvel mystery oil in it.  The engine spins  well  with no gas in it . I am delaying seeing if the apex seals are bad.   I read just hold you finger on a sparkplug hole  and if you get continuous pfss pfsst pfsst.  Your Golden.  Pfss  pfss nothing = bad   pfss nothing nothin = 2x bad ....

I see on Youtube folks rebuilding Wankels and it looks easier than a VW motor.

Bright side ,  No dents,  Good Seats and carpet, Ok tires
the Sound system is great and I sit in the seat,  crank up Lady Gaga with the moon roof off and make the head lights open and close to the beat.  Sc

The thought of that made me drop the cigarette I was smoking on my foot. How horrifying. Poor little Mazda.

As the sun  set over the LaFayette triangle,  There was heard a mighty roar, as the tyranosaurous RX7 CAME TO LIFE!  A noxious cloud of blue and white smoke fouled the air. Mosquito's fell from the sky.  Then all was quite as the RX would not idle and conked out.    Hot Diggitty ding dangs! We gots a runner! SC

Unless, of course, the running briefly period was followed by the engine turning over really fast.......  ;D

Blew out all the mystery oil in the engine,  Had me scared... tons of smoke,  Now the exhaust is invisible.    You have to  run the starter a while  before it starts hitting,  then   RRRRrrrmmmm,  It has a pull choke on the dash.  Maybe I need to use it,  or see if its is working. Or read the owner's manual,   Spent today cleaning  mud dauber nests out of the engine and wasp nests out of the door hinges.

Present concerns:
  Conks out at Idle.
Conks out when Lady Gaga is on radio
Seems to run out of gas after a minute of running ..SC

There should be a tuner on the dash to solve problem #2.   :D

I heard that. A friend of mine had a 88' Honda . I was blown away when I saw the black box where ALL vac. lines appeared from the bowels of the engine comp. One, just one line fell off under the air cleaner and the dang car would not hit a lick. This puts a whole new meaning in the term of taking your car to the dealer to get a HOSE JOB ;D ;D

well its running,  brakes are working a little.  the clutch will work but if you go in reverse it loses pressure and you can't get it out of reverse so it conks out.  So its A-OK.   Except for this leaking oil problem,  its a drip a second when its running.  When the oil gets low a red light flashes and a chimes starts ringing.  Not Cool.

This picture is from under the driver door.  The higher big bolt is the tranny filler. The oil seems to come out of the lower bolt that holds the tranny to the engine.
I'm Hoping Rick has a idea what it is before do something rash.  SC

Those engines are made like a sandwich, there are several layers to them and they are all squeezed together with through bolts that come out....guess where...yup, the bell housing.  Now this is important because the bolts are very long and are easy to get in the way when doing services like replacing the clutch.  I have seen more than one rear housing cracked from previous clutch work, well I assume it was the bolts getting in the way, could be other things not lining up right when going back together, ??? but I know of at least one of the cracks came from the bolts as I was around when the dude did it on a FC.  It seems the cracks usually show up where pressurised oil runs to the oil cooler lines...Not saying that's what happened or where it's even leaking, just a possibility.  I guess that didn't really help.. :-\  Sorry, I'll shut up now :P
