Volvo engine light

« on: February 20, 2012, 08:47:48 PM »
So the 94 940  will run days with out the engine light coming on.  It seems to come on on cold mornings or when you drive about 45 minutes non stop.   When the  light comes on.  the engine runs noticable worse.  I pull the battery ground off for a few mintues and it runs ok again.  The MPG is crap at 17 and I baby the gas pedal.   Engine starts quick and idles good.    I do have leaks at the  manifold were it touches the engine and I have some trampoline springs holding the exhaust pipe tight together since a weld broke out were the muffler pipe hooks to the manifold pipe.  The flash codes have to do with running lean and lambda things.  Any quick fox idea'rs/  Sc

Sounds like an air leak,  vacuum hose or breather or bad pipe to the maf sensor

Travis, Ive been messing with this Volvo for months and found nothing. Your post boosted my spirits.. So Wed,   after work,  I open the hood to reattach the battery terminal to reset the CEL light   The sun shining down  at an angle  at  about 5pm,  It was like Raiders of the lost ark when Ford had that staff with a opal or something on it.  Well any way, the sun brightly lights up the engine and I notice this emission box squeezed between the battery and the front head light.  There was a huge vac line that broke off at the connector  that fed to the top of the throttle body.   Hurray.  No CEL so far.   Thanks.  SC

Seems my exhaust was shot.  cat was rust thru.. O2 was getting too much fresh air.  60 bucks of pipe and welds, Reset ICU/PCU.  The Maroon Scooner is much quieter, maybe peppier  and I don't feel so woozie when I drive it.  If the CEL comes on again,  I'm going to install a remote control CPU reset.  SC

500 Volvo
200 windshield.. my fault
50 time belt
60 exhaust
80+  Brake shinanigans

The cel is on again.   One thing I wonder is if the light is on .. does the car go in limp home mode.  For some reason I think it runs rougher when the light is on.  Maybe it runs the same.    These are the things I think about when I should be working.   Sc
