Is there some kind of ordinance in the "Triangle" say that you can't buy gas or have a working fuel gage ? The world wants to know.

That would be logical, so yeah, there is an ordinace against it.  You got to remember that down here, our crematory won't even burn bodies! ::)

One last hope I have was to unplug the battery and let the computer reset

Now the battery crapped out. Its low on water,    It is located under some stuff,  So i filled my mouth with water and got a bendy straw.  Then I kind of spit water  into the battery holes.  pretty smart!  huh?  Now the charger is doing its thing.  Stay tuned.  SC

I think you should have rented a couple of " Jack Daniel & Water " run around the block and pee in the battery from a safer distance.

Update.  this morning,  I felt like getting lucky,  but both my Wife and the chevy had other plans.    THe battery was Charged a bit.  so at about 6:30 am,  I put on my bunny slippers  and cranked up the chevy and it started with out using the gas pedal.  Brilliant.  Its still real noisy but not shaking so bad.  The Oil light is on.  so i'm thinking
Noisy rattly engine and oil light on.  Did I run out of gas and cause the oil pump to fail?  After work today,  It again started and was noisy with the oil light on.  Maybe the Chevy uses the same  pump for fuel pump and oil.  Sc

Have ever thought about checking the oil level ?   Its that long "Thingy Thang" that has the handle on it.

Actually, no.  But.....

GM did get the bright idea to make the system so that if you have no oil pressure, it cuts the fuel pump off.  Seriously.

Pontiac ,in the mid '07s on the little Sunbird cars had the same sort of system but it would shut down the ing.system. They  dropped it pretty soon due to law suits from accidents on the road because the little worthless 4 cly. GM engines were blowing up and people were running into the car on the freeways when it locked down about 75-80 mph( the speed limit was 75 mph at the time) This happened to my Brother inlaw in VA. Damn near killed him. You also could not start the car until the oil pressure came up. The starter would spin it over but no cigar . He said it was fun on cold mornings. I don't think those P.O.S. engines had very much oil pressure to begin with.

Thursday Update.  So I was thinkin again and I decided that the oil filter collapsed and bought a new stp oil filter  and stuck it on.  Did not help.  3 bucks down the drain.  I guess its the Oil pump and from what i have read.  is a POS to get too.  Any one have the OEM engine lifter for a 3100 v6?

One more thing.  I stuck my finger in the top end through the oil filler hole.  Pretty dry in there.   SC

Zen,  I was wondering why I cant find any sunbirds to buy

I'm  starting to think that the oil pump is clogged and a engine flush might fix it.  Whar do ya think?

Hook your battery cables up backwards so the starter will spin the other way and the engine will run backwards . . . that ought to backflush out any clogs.  Then just change your oil, put the cables back on right and you should be good to go!   ;D

Could be a clogged oil pump screen.
I had to replace mine when we did a head rework, @120K miles.
My wifes's pontiac has the same engine.

I bought 3 qts of atf,  I'm going to get the Camry hot and  drain the atf out,  then drain the chevy oil out  and pour hot Atf in my Chevy engine ,  then put clean atf in the toyota.  My theory is the hot atf will clean out the oil pump, and all will be well

Asbug,  I want to change the oil pump but   I read that on the   97 lumina you have  just about have the engine lifted out to get the oil pan off.  There is a big welded cross member right under the engine that has a big rubber motor mount that the engine sets on.  grrrrrrrrr  SC

Boy,  that was  complicated, transfusioning  toyota atf to Chevy engine.  I had Atf in an old noodle pot and chevy oil in the old soup  pot.  Then it started sleeting Friday and I had sleet in my used atf.   Then a mighty wind blew and I had tree  leaves in my oil soup,    Somehow,  I got the Sleet flavored atf in the chevy,  ran it a minute, drained it out into soup pot,  then poured oak leave flavored used oil back in Chevy.  It did not help, still got rattly engine and no oil pressure.
Like a panning for gold   prospector of old'en days,  I gazed into the bottom of the Atf noodle pot and saw sparkles of light. Looking closer,  it was not little grains of gold in there. It was Silver! I struck silver!. Little silver grains, washing around, reflecting sunlight.  I can mine silver out of my Chevy!  I'm gonna be rich!.  SC

silver huh?

soooo basically we have a destroyed chevy v6 full of watered down ATF fluid that has been ran dry to the point of chewing up its bearings, and you were originally worried about fuel pressure?

I'm with Zen... I wanna see this engine run backwards....

At this point we should take bets on how long it will run at 2k rpm before it spits a rod out the side.  ;D
