Opps.. poured Oil additive in my Rx7 Fuel tank

« on: July 22, 2011, 08:10:06 AM »
I've been pouring 2 oz of 2 stroke oil in the tank when I fill up this 83 rx.  I must have been tired when I bought the quart of oil additive that was on the shelf next to the 2 stroke mix.  Last fill up, I dumped about a half  quart of oil Additive in the tank.    It was so thick that it over flowed the fuel tank input tube and made the  gas pump shut off early.   When I pulled the gas pump nozzle out it was dripping thick honey like I pulled it out of a beehive.  I feel bad for the next person who filled up with that pump.  I was so distracted/disgusted   by  the mess in my tank and the thick oil drooling down the rear quarter panel,  I did not wipe off the fuel nozzle..

I've been driving it hard to run out all that super lubed petrol.  Now I can't Idle with out tapping the pedal to keep the engine going.

Does any one think this did any Harm, or once I get oily  gas used up it will fix it self?

The Bright Side of this is  The exhaust smoke is a pretty blue and I dont' worry about meskeetoes biting me  now when I work on it.  SC

It'll probably eventually disolve and find it's way out the exhaust pipe.  It'll probably run like crap and smoke until then, but at least it'll be well lubed.   ;D

Most likely it won't hurt anything. Rotaries will actually run on kerosene. Not very well, but they will. My turbo 7 runs horrible on anything under 93 octane.
It idles rougher on lower grade gas. And it's street ported which makes it not idle at all when it's not warmed up.
I know this was an old post. But being as big a rotorhead as I am an airhead I wanted to comment.
I love RX-7's and rotary cars and engines with a passion.

Great info thumpgun
We need to add a rotary section to volksfolks.
I've slowly been resurrecting this 83 rx7.   SC
