Left overs again?. Master Cyl repair

« on: September 27, 2010, 06:17:04 AM »
I took apart  the master Cyl off the Rx7.  Everything looked ok and  I did not replace anything,   cleaned it, reinstall.    Looks like I have a single ball bearing the size of a BB left on my work bench.   I'm guessing it was in the master Cyl.  Does that one BB matter much?  Or should Fix it?   I reckon it was between the plunger pistons.  Do master Cyls often have BB's?  Maybe it came from the Carb rebuild?  Or some punk neighbor kid was shooting birds and a shot landed on the bench towel .  SC

More that likely, the "BB" is part of a check valve.  If it goes in the master cylinder, it probably won't work right without it.

 ???

Put down the wrenches....

Step away from the automobile...

Proceed to the phone...

Call somebody to tow the car to a repair facility.....

That oughtta do it.   ;D

Whatever you do, MAKE SURE THE BRAKES WORK BEFORE you top the hill on West Reed Road heading for 27!

Mystery solved.. I opened this haynes book and it describe's  that a BB goes in the rear wheel cyl under the bleeder screw.   So it is part of the wheel cyl and notthe  Master.  whew.  Now I can sleep.  sc

that's good to know. So as long as there isn't 4 BBs, it'll be alright... I mean, three brakes are as good as 4, right?

SC, just make sure you have brakes before you top that hill.  I drive through that intersection at least twice a day!

The BB is bigger than a real BB.  Now it is stuck in the barrel of  my  Daisy Red Rider.

What is funny is that the main brake line goes in to the right back cyl.  a second line leaves the wheel cyl and goes to the left back wheel which has a bleeder.

Only one bleeder for the 2 rear CYls'!.   I guess that introduces some micro second delay in back braking  between the Cyls

Don't worry about me T boneing you on 27 yet.    The 2 Cyls  were so rusty frozen .  I could not get the pistons out to reuse them.  That's why I got's a  Free BB .  SC

My Brother visited this week from Boston on the condition that we drink alot of beer and drive this rx7.  We bled the brakes.    but the master Cyl   is shot.  It kinda works, if you pump it ... continuously.

"We Doe'n need no master cyls".  We got a hand brake. He steers and runs the motor,  I'm the brake.   We went on the maiden voyage of the USS RX7. Half way out the drive way.  I say "let me make sure the wheel lugs are tight?". they wer'nt .  Weeee.

Car is crazy fast...throws your head back.  We have no brakes  and it is a very light car.  The hand brake just slowed you down, kind of.  Smoking rubber as the back wheels lock up. Crazy stupid fun.   SC
