Got excited and ended up making a mess...

« on: May 24, 2011, 08:40:37 AM »
I finally found a matching boot for my car.  When it finally got here, I yanked it out of the box and slapped it straight onto my top I already had down.  Snaps worked great and then...  I noticed the greasy film I had on my hands and when I took the perfectly fitting boot off, it had left a dirty residue on the headliner.  ???

BAH!   >:( >:( >:(

Anybody know how to clean oily residue off of upholstry?  Now I need to clean not only the underside of the boot, but my headliner as well.

I also have a brand new canvas top, but when I put the top down, it rubs on the plastic rim next to the trunk and leaves a black smudge on my beige top.  Clearly, I need to clean my top AND get whatever off of that plastic piece.

Suggestions?

For grease, Shannon, a good degreaser, rubbed on with a damp terry towel works, like Purple Power, my mess remover of choice.... just be sure not to use anything too strong, it may cause discoloring// fading.

I am just assuming this would work, as it's never happened to me....

yeah, right....  :-[

I was considering using an old hand towel and some dawn dishwashing liquid first since it does a pretty good job with grease.  I was concerned about the discoloring if I used a commerical degreaser.

If that won't cut it, I'll try the Purple Power.  Can't I get that at Dollar General?

I think so.... i know they carry it at parts stores.  We buy it in 5 gallon buckets and use it to clean everything... of course, you can probably get by with a little less than that.   ;D

I'm afraid if I bought a lot, Mark would expect me to keep going and clean everything!  I'm not looking for that kind of commitment.   ;D

5 gallons of cleaner in my garage is like bailing water out of the ocean.   :-\

Purple Power is good and also Simple Green, it cleans just about everything and is pretty gentle. I've never had it discolor anything.
