Chevy 2.8 V6 Rebuild

« on: December 28, 2012, 10:48:20 AM »
Oil has gotten too expensive to let it just run out on the ground (I hear it's not too good for the envirnonment either) and the stuff is running out of every seal and gasket on my S10.  I need to pull it out and reseal it . . .  so I'm thinking I might as well go ahead and rebuild it.  Has anyone ever rebuilt a 2.8 V6 Chevy?  Anything I need to know before I start?

I've rebuilt small block Chevys before, but it's been about 30 years since the last one. This thing kind'a looks like a 283 with 2 cylinders missing, so I think I can handle it, but I'd appreciate any advice before I start.  I've got to get something else running before I start on it, so it'll be a few weeks before I start on it.

Zen! This couldn't have come at a better time. I just received my chevy V6 2.8l engine last night and its sitting on a stand in my garage. I was thinking last night that we should rebuild them together! I'm down for tearing it down, cleaning them up and rebuilding them with new seals if you are. I think there is a book about rebuilding a GM 60degree motor, kinda like the Tom Wilson version for these motors. I'll see if I can put my hands on one.
