97 Honda Atturd won't crank

« on: September 09, 2011, 06:25:22 AM »
So my son's girlfriend parked her car over here and then it would not turn over.  So it sits.

The head lights are bright and I have charged the battery. The ignition lights are on.  if it was not automatic, I bet I could push start it.  I've been wiggling wires, key ignition and the shifter, tightening grounds .  No Luck.   no solenoid click when I turn the key so I'm thinking some safety switch somewhere.

Last night, I did get the starter to engage and turn for a second,  but I'm not sure what I did and  could not repeat it.   Then I stepped in dog crap and began to smell it on my shoe as I sat in the drivers seat and decided it was a sign to give up for the night.  Any ideas before I take this starter out? SC

Hmmmm,  Leaving a little dog dodo in the floorboard should be a nice little gift for Wonder Boy's girl friend I would think. Your friends should not park cars in your yard. Sounds like when they do, they never leave. ??? ???

Anyone noticed that S.C. has accounted for more than half of the new posts in this forum category?

I vote for a re-naming of this section in his honor.....  ;D

Oh, and check your power all the time at the big cable on the starter, have somebody turn the key to the "start" position and see if you get power on the solenoid wire, and CHECK THAT THE GROUND CABLE IS GOOD TOO.... Everybody looks for power, but not for ground.  I have found that to be the culprit more than once.

:o NOT ANOTHER SC "HELP WITH A STARTER" POST!!!!   ;D
"Help with a SLOW starter"  Part- 1    to "Help with a NO starter "  Part-2 . O.M.G.
Here we go again !!!!!!     I was trying real hard not to mention it but Zen JUST had to bring it up .    Oh well !!  At least we will be entertained for a while. I haven't seen a good electrical fire in awhile. I wonder how long it will be before SC gets his friend Frank to help him out provided his legs are healed up from a blast of raw gas fired from SC 's  "Stupie" beetle muffler one fateful crossed wired day long ago ? ;D ;D ;D  Long live the Triangle !!!!!

Make sure it's plugged in, set it to "Medium Load", put it on "Warm-Cold", you can set it on "Delicates", but I think "Normal" would work fine since it's a Honda, add detergent and press "Start". Should start right up after the last step. If not, call Kenmore and see what they have to say.

I am pretty sure his use of the product voids the manufacturer's warranty.   ;D

one thing people forget to check on automatics is to make sure the car is actually in park. there is a safety switch that wont let the car start if it doesnt think the shifter is all the way up into the park position. try turning the ignition on (to unlock the shifter) , shifting it all the way down to first, then back up to park and try to start it again.

Thanks for the love everyone. Your healing words have yet again solved a vexing cunnumdrum.   Pulled off the  auto shifter  plastic cover that says  p r N d.  Played around in there.  Somebody has already been in there since some parts of the shift lock are missing.  Alas,  that was not it,

Decided to tackle a job I was qualified for and hosed off my dog crap shoes and the dog crap floor map.

Got a  beer and Dinkered around the starter, which is mechanical un friendly under the dist and radiator hoses.   Found the solenoid hot wire that felt like it was connected.  pulled it off and re installed .  It went in further than it was before. that was it.  Yea! Only 7 cars in the drive way and yard .  SC

Must own an Isuzu... can't get the key out without shifting into park and then pushing it forward again!

This better not turn into a No "no starter thread".  Maybe if we click our heels and say "there's no place like the triangle"  3 x.......   So the honda was fixed Friday.  Ran Saturday and Sunday.  Cranked and would not start Monday afternoon.  Whats that? ..3 days.

I don't hear the soothing wrrrrr of the fuel pump.  check the fuses.    find out the pump relay is under the dash some where.  Reach under there and wiggle wires in a manner that gets my thumb pierced by an exposed screw.   Car starts but its under observation until day light because I dont know what i Did.   SC
