94 Volvo 940 runs better with MAF unplugged

« on: June 16, 2013, 05:37:40 PM »
Unplug battery for an hour,  reset the ECU, plug in the MAF,  Car runs great.

Wake up next day,  start car,  runs like crap.  Unplug MAF,  car runs better.

Seems weird,

No CEL.  I do have a cheapo  O2 sensor that is not heated.  Again no CEL
Any thoughts?  SC

Sounds like it may need a maf,  I would grab one out of a junk yard and try it

Before I buy a MAF,  I went and got MAF spray.  $7.99  jeez....  I blasted the little MAF wires.    Sprayed and wiped out the throttle body,  made sure all the connecting air pipes are good and tight.   Ran great last night,

Then I broke off the top handle that pulls the dipstick out.  great

We will see if runs ok today after sleeping last night.

Volvos are kinda tender with the dip stick handle.  AH ! the wonders of plastic. Bugs have the best dip stick in the world. Of course they will weld themselves to your fingers if you check the oil when the engine is hot.  AH ! the wonders of blazing metal. ;D ;D

I have a new unfavorate car part.  the distributer  next to the firewall on this volvo.  I has 3 =8mm inch long screws.  Ow my back.  This the most dirty distributer I ever saw.  I pray that this is part of the runability issues

Those can be a pain but also a root of problems,  they also leak oil from the distributer o rings

Cleaned and sandpapered.  still runs bad,  no CEL.   Maybe its fuel pump or filter.

It  runs better with MAF unplugged,  does the MAf and the fuel pump have any feedback?

Could limp home mode make fuel system work differently?  SC

That should read replaced

It  runs better with MAF unplugged,  does the MAf and the fuel pump have any feedback?

They wouldn't have anything to do with each other

Ok I'm taking the fuel filter back to store,

One trick I've tried  is if I unplug the MAf while the car is running poorly,  and replug it in the car runs good again,  SC

It possible the pins are not making good contact on the plug and short out,  the fuel filter in my jeep was clogged and it would run poorly off and on

Ok,  what does this point to.  Take air hose off fuel regulated and engine still runs.

I pinched the return line for gas and the idle increased. Maybe that will clean out the injectors. Or make the gas regulated work better.  Sc

That's normal,  it just ups the fuel pressure with engine vacuum,  make sure no fuel come out of the vacuum side
