Would like to trade my BMW 2002 tii for a Thing or possibly Bug

« on: December 08, 2010, 02:09:03 PM »
Sold my 70 bug about 4 yrs ago and bought a car which I also loved which BMW 2002tii. Spent the 31/2 yrs. restoring her to make a daily driver.

Now, getting the itch back for a VW again and would like to see if anyone has a "Thing" they might be interested in trading for.
I've got about 10k in the car and would probably sell for $6500. would consider another bug restored as well.
Or maybe someone can tell me if I would have better luck on the Samba, just not sure what's local anymore.
Thanks
Ron

I only know of a couple of things in the club. If you are looking to sell it instead of trade it, you might want to contact the Chattanooga BMW club (http://www.choochoobimmers.org/). My old man has been a part of that group for a while and they love very nice BMWs, both new and old. You might find someone willing to pay you good money for it.

On a side note, talk about two different styles of clubs! I went on a cruise with them a few years back and 5th gear was hardly enough in the '88 635csi that I was driving. Some folks topped 130mph on some back roads to Jack Daniels. The meetings are a little more formal. Their club Christmas party is nothing like ours! But none-the-less, a cool group of folks that love German machinery.

Thanks for the info. Haven't pushed to try to sell her yet, but thought would put a feeler out first. There's also a good 02 forum that I can post to as well and may later. Used to actually get a e-mail from the Chattanooga club every now and then, but don't think I have in a long time.

Hey Ron!  I wondered if you still alive and kicking!  Come hang out with us sometime . . . even if you aren't driving a VW.

showed my dad this thread. He got excited to see a nice 2002. I told him to spread the word at the BMW christmas party next weekend. What year is it and what kind of mileage, MT or AT... Etc?

Hey Thanks,
It's a 74 2002 tii Atlantik Blue (tii is the fuel injected, only three years for the fuel injected 72-74) 4 speed(only way to go)
Not sure of miles, speedo has been replaced.
The good,
Head's been re-worked, distributor re-curved for a tii, crane electronics, new headliner, front window, brake lines, brakes, upgraded radiator, gas tank, new electric fuel pump, Kugelfisher system replaced(Fuel injection) etc. sand blasted, prepped, painted, etc, (I can keep going on)
No rust in any of the body panels(fenders, doors, shock towers, rocker panels, etc). She is a daily driver but is garaged and drove when weather is good.  interior is in great shape, It does have AC and works, but needs freon (problem is want to convert to 134, but may need to replace with a modern Sanden unit or fill with R12.

Bad
There was little surface rust under the car, but has been taken care. This is why I'm not asking the 10K which I have in it and only asking 6,500 OBO. The previous owner cut out floor boards where there was rust and replaced with good, only he didn't weld, he pop-riveted, siliconed then they put fat mat on top(the floor boards are not quite like the VW floor boards) replaced the spare tire well, but it's not original and the frame rails were beefed up. That's it for the bad.
Attached is a couple more pics, if anyone is interested, I can send more off line.
it's all I have at work,
Again Thanks Ron
