Please send photos of:
Bed, Cab Corners, Floor board, engine, any rust areas to:
vikinghill@aol.com
(Does it still have the floor starter and torque tube trannie?)
If you truck solid, I might be interested in it - I currently have 2 busses and a beetle.

Tim, Love the truck. I wish I could swing that deal.    Is the engine the original 216 cu.in. or a 232 cu.in.?  Love those old "stove-bolt" engines. The first engine I ever helped overhaul was one of these . I think I was 13. Sorry I didn't get to "smoke" over your '50. Looks great.

Nick! Shhhhhh! Don't give him any ideas . . . my Allison fund is up to $10 now.  If I can get him to hold on to it for another 30 or 40 years, I'll be able to buy it!

The original would be a 216 babbit.  I believe the GMC's had the 232.
I'd be willing to bet money having not seen the photos that the truck has a 235 in it though.  Babbits are a pain to rebuild.

I got to be a master at fitting up babbit rods as long as the engine was out of the car. ;D ;D

I vaugly remember my dad tearing apart an old chevy engine when I was a kid (this would have been an early 50's engine he was rebuilding in the mid 60's).  I may be dreaming, but I'm thinking he had the rods sent to a machine shop and machined for bearing inserts.  Am I dreaming that up, or is it something that might have really happened?

I don't think you were dreaming,But thats not the whole story.  Remember the rods were lubed by the splash system . Only the mains brg's were lube by pressure. I don't remember what they did to convert. I'm not sure the crankshaft was even drilled for rod pressure. Only the mains.   I think the proper name for babbit poured was "Semi-Precision"  and the insert brg was called "Precision"  Well Dud. Those old Chevys would hold up good if you didn't try to turn 6,000 rpm.  Another feature was when the rods got to rattling around you could drop the oil pan and jerk a few shims out of the rods and you would be good to go another 50,000 miles. My first car was a 1936 Chevy sedan with the org 216 ci . Thats where I learned how to care and feed that old wonderful slug of cast iron. Wish I still had it . The car cost me $35 and I drove it home. I was 14(?)

Babbit bearings, knurled pistons, carborators and breaker points . . . So much once cutting edge technology is quickly fading from the memory of modern Automotive Technicians.  But just like any other sceince or technology (or pretty much anything else in life) . . . if you want to really understand where it is, it helps to understand where it came from.   8)

well looks like a lot of other things that have happened to me I am going to have to sell this truck instead of trade it because of my recent discovery of cancer and since I dont have insurance I will need cash.   4500 or best offer
