No wonder it leaks - you're heating already "hot" water!

Thanks for sharing those pictures Travis!  You know that bus used to belong to Smelly Cat don't you?  It's now the Volks Folks Shower bus and the interior out of it is in Homer.

Nick, I helped my brother fix his water heater . . . He was running out of hot water, so he kept cranking the thermostat up on the top element.  The water kept getting hotter, but would run out quicker.  So remember . . . top element is for recovery, bottom element is to maintain the temperature.  If you set the top element hotter than the bottom, the bottom one will NEVER kick on.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

What do you do when the rusty water spills out the top and runs down the side into the thermostat cover and shorts out the wires until the plastic thermostat casing melts and you find it because of the burning smell at 2:30am? I'm leaning towards a new one...

Two years ago on valentines day, I noticed that we were running out of hot water fast and faster, so I pulled the tank out (from under the stairs) and rolled it to the driveway, where I removed about 24 gallons of calcium from a 48 gallon tank! The bottom element wouldn't turn until I busted a bunch up. Then I replaced every element, pressure valve, drain and the little fill tube. I thought I'd get more than 2 years, but oh well, at least it's easy enough to fix.

Last week I had a water leak somewhere underground...there were no signs of leakage, I only found out when the water company sent me a letter saying I had used 28,000 gallons in a month. Cripes! I called in an emergency locate and they came out and marked the gas lines. Luckily it ended up being busted right where the pipe goes into the house so we didn't have to dig far.

Sounds like fun!!!!

Oh and I got the water heater replaced and warming up for my hot shower. Can't wait! It only took 11 hours and 40 minutes of down time, but that included discovery, removal, nap, doctor's appointment, shopping for new water heater and installation. I don't think Megan noticed (she is still in her pajamas)!
