I would think a Midget would be but you have to remember its British and there is no guarantee that it could keep it up. A Midget is a lot more fun to drive as long as your hemorrhoids are tied down properly . Linda use to have one along with her original Mini Cooper S. I wish she still had them.

I would have to agree. The Midget would be faster as i had one in my 20's. It was a blast to drive. However if those carbs are just a little off beat they will not let you go anywhere. A bug will let you get where you need to go to get it fixed but a midget will need a tow. So speed and fun go with the midget but with ease of repaire and " reliablity " go with the vw.

Assuming the Midget started.....

I think it would have the advantage.

BTW,David... we have Ken Defour's 1996 Anniversary edition Austin Mini Cooper here at work now... I love those little boxes.  It makes me want to sell something else just to get one.   :D

Ah, The orig. Hatch Back.   I love to watch a Mini at Auto crosses hiking its little 10" rear wheel in the air like a Boy Dog at a fire plug.  ;D ;D

This thing is bad.... medium, kinda cloudy green, white top.  Anniversary badges, woodgrain dash, white gauges, and a "modern" Rover AM/FM Cassette player.

I just wanted to sit behind the wheel and make little motor noises.

Dang, I want one of these things BAD....

Just bragging.  My Pop had a 52 MG TD in the garage. He got sick of it after a while.  so I laid hands on it.   I Got to hot rod around in it in high school.   What a pain in the ass to keep running.  The carbs had oil holders dripped oil when you stomped the pedal. fouled plugs,  Crazy to try to get the carbs balanced. Stupid electric fuel pump,  had a wood floor.  Love that machine,  beautiful gauges with  suicide doors. sc

My Spitfire 1500 has the same engine British Leyland put in the 70s Midgets (Triumph used them first, for the record) It makes 53hp in stock trim in a car that weighs around 1800 pounds empty. Aerodynamics would be the car's biggest advantage: The Spitfire stands only 3'9" and the Midget wouldn't be much taller. Weight would also be similar in the Midget. The Spitfire's maximum speed was 94-102 MPH (depending on the test) and would do 0-60 in around 13 sec.
