Where are the turn signals?.... if they are below the headlamps, then it is a 68-72.... if they are up high at the ends of the fresh air intake grille, then it is a 73-79.

I can't remember, just that it is a bay window model and blue and white.

Hell, Look under the engine . Lots of oil on the ground and running on 2 1/2  cylinders , Its a '72-'79
       Lots of gear lube on the ground and jumps out of 4th gear,  Its a '67 and older.

This picture proves it's a '70 or '71.

1968-1969 had round reflectors instead of the squarish ones on the sides. So, we know it's not that old.

Like certdubtech said, in 1973 they moved the front turn signals from below the headlights to above the headlights, so we know it's older than 1973.

In 1972, they went to the larger, rectangular tail lights (with integrated backup lights), which narrows the year to 1970 or 1971.

I don't know of any other visual differences between a 1970 or 1971.

I love "Lost",  I've watched it every year.  There was a corpse in the turned over bus and  lots of 15 year old beer.  They turned the bus upright and push started it on a big hill.   Man!  those VW's are built well,  They also ran over  bad guys who had machine guns  with it.   It was like a herbie movie.   or maybe a a Homer move.    Zen you should let Homer watch that episode

I belive you are correct Sir. Didn't the '71s seem to sit a little higher in the front also ?  I don't know why.

Oh no,   Last night on LOST ,  they  set the bus on fire and put a brick on the gas pedal.   It had flames coming out of every window  as it careened  down the road,  finally crashing into a house and burning it down.  

It was scary
