What oil do you use?

Just changed my oil for the second time ever today, and I have gone with mobil one both times (Fram filter the first and STP the second). I was wondering what you all use and if you had had any problems or comments with any brands.

Yes oil good. I recommend oil, VW +no oil =bad

I run Castrol GTX 20W50 in everything except my 1 cylinder lawn mower (I run straight 30W in it). If it's on a water-cooled VW, be careful of the filter you use . . . I was having all kinds of oil pressure problems on my 96 Passat a few years back. I put an OEM filter on it and the problems vanished.

You probably want to stick with the European blend of Mobil 1 or Castrol if your turbo, they both have a variety of weights avalible.

10w 40 for most syth. for 1.8t and everthing 04 and up, gold bottle for diesel, factory filter

I run the Mobil full synth in the 1.8t in the B5.5 -
I was told that this is the "good stuff".
Also do not skimp in the filter. do some research on coked oil (dino oil) in a VW turbo.

Valvoline 20W50 VR1 racing oil in air-cooled motors because of the ZDDP additives and Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic in the 1.8T. I use Mahle filters.

I have the vr6 engine, ergo no turbo. I had heard about filter problems before, but I had none last time. Oh yes, it was the full synthetic 5w-20 mobil 1.

some of the guys run regular oil 10 w 40 i think in the vr6, factory filter

5-20 is a bit too thin for a VR6. There's a list of approved engine oil here:
