o Pencil and paper
o Jumper cables
o Blankets/pillows
o Mr. Quackers
o Duct tape
o Spare batteries (asst. sizes)

:thumbs-up: Hey Russ, I know I've seen one in your Westy, but you need to add a fire extingusher to the list!!!  One for any type of air cooled VW, two for a Type 2.

If you have an upright engine in your Type 2, carry and extra generator belt.  That's probably a good idea for type 4 engines, but at least they won't overheat without the belt.

If your gas gauge doesn't work, carry a gas can and tape an envelope with a couple of dollars in it to the side of the can . . . and a good pair of walking shoes.  (Don't EVEN ask me about this one, just do it!)

I guess I'm probably the only person that needs to carry extra bumper bolts, but I've got them on my list!  LOL

:lookaround: That's about all I can think of to add.  One question though . . . puppets???

It's probably most common for a lot of us to add stuff to our "carry-ons" that has affected us in the past.  I have most of the items on your list + and extinguisher and a 12v portable compressor/battery pack but unfortunately, no puppets or Mr. Quackers.

But to add from my own personal triumphs and failures:

-A New Accelerator Cable
-A New Clutch Cable
-Wheel Blocks
-My Carb Sync Tool (only essential for Dual Carb'd cars)
-Some fuses (since our cars take those wierd hard to find ones)
-Extra Yellow (Vanillia) Trees
-A Tow Rope

and last but certainly not least: (and I keep usually 2 of these in each of my automobiles)

An oldish long sleeved shirt for use by the woman, usually at restaraunts or movies or for whatever occasion arises.

Two tools to make sure you have in your kit are a 6mm allen wrench, for the alternator bracket, and a 17mm allen wrench or socket, for the transaxle fill nut.  Also, if you don't have a fire extinguisher, bring Eldon and Herb, who can blow out an engine fire!!!  (Glad it wasn't worse, Russ!) :colgate:
