Went to see the CrossBlue

« on: January 28, 2013, 09:15:09 AM »
Took a little trip this weekend to see the new crossblue up in Detroit. Thought it was pretty cool and looked like a mix between the 4Runner and the Range/Land Rovers.

They also had a pretty cool Cross Coupe TDI.

Other shots:

I also took some photos of other cars, but I only posted the VW related stuff here.

The cross coupe is boasting the TDI badge. I am not 100% sure what the CrossBlue will come out with. I'm sure someone else will post up.

Looks pretty badass. Is this on the Passat platform?

Not sure. Just saw the concept, or whatever it was. There wasn't a super model talking about all of its specs and available options

http://jalopnik.com/5975690/vw-crossblue-concept-screw-you-were-making-a-diesel-hybrid-suv-out-of-a-golf

Jalopnik claims it's on the Golf platform, and that it'll be a diesel-electric hybrid.

Between this and the Golf Mk7 they showed recently, I like the direction they are going with exterior styling.

...with GM SUV wheel arches ???

So, on the Coupe, how much more do you pay for less space due to the slanty back window? Nothing against the VW take on the crossover per se', I've just never understood why anyone would want an SUV masquerading as a 5/4 scale "car" on steroids.

I agree. You can get more stuff in a square box than a round box.

Beetle???

all the beetle displays were just the various current models. Last year they had a few beetle concepts and the E-beetle, but this year they were focused on the CrossBlue

Oddly enough, there were not a ton of concepts like in years past. You can tell that most manufacturers are focusing more on designing production ready cars than the concepts. It used to be that EVERY manufacturer had really outlandish designs EVERY YEAR. There were only a handful of pure concepts.

The coolest thing you could really tell from everyone in one room is the current and upcoming trends, like wheel designs. I noticed that all the wheels were switching to a primary spoke with an accent spoke- one company had carbon fiber inserts as accents.

Similarly, Denso was there, which designs automotive technologies. They were displaying their new stuff like white line sensors that alert you if you drift out of your lane or sleepy eye waker uppers that watch your eyes and alert you if you doze off. Some of the newest was car-to-car talking that would alert you/apply brakes if you were  about to hit another car (that had the device) or would alert you to cross traffic that wasn't stopping. One step closer to automated riding! Then you walk around and everyone is talking about "their" new technology that does all the stuff that the Denso guy just explained to you. Apparently all manufacturers buy their gadgets from Denso and put their own twist on them.
