We need a surveyor - Anyone know one?

« on: April 21, 2004, 12:50:57 PM »
Is anyone in the club a surveyor or know a surveyor or is related to a surveyor who we could get to go out to Camp Jordan and give us a completely accurate drawing of the show site?

A group of members went out last year and measured everything off but there are some funny angles involved and I think we saw this year, with our near capacity crowd, we need to initiate some changes in how we lay out the field. For those of you who did put forth the time and effort last year, we are very grateful but we NEED something a lot more accurate. Anyone reading this and is willing to help us out without charging us an arm and a leg, please step forward.

Thank You in advance!!

Short of paying a surveyor, maybe we could use some of the arial photos of the site to create a scale drawing of the site, then take that drawing and a couple of 300' tapes to Camp Jordan and come up with something.   ???

I think I remember someone saying something about maybe having access to a handheld GPS unit.  That might be another option.

The problem with the measurements we took the last time is that we didn't have an accurate drawing of the site to transfer them to.  We had the measurements right but we did a poor job of getting all the angles right.  If we had a drawing that already showed the angles, we could do a much better job.  Plus, we did this on a day that was about 33 degrees with a pretty strong wind blowing . . . we could do a better job if we did it on pretty day.  I think we were more concerned with getting done before frostbite set in than getting it right!   :)
