I don't think I would have said "Burning up"   

Might as well since 2 foot flames were the first experience I had with this car...  Been there, done that.

Ha!  I wish that were true!  Actually, the new parts will be >$300.  The LABOR will be $100.  Hoping it's a mix of new parts / doing it right the first time and favor / steal on the labor cost.  If this works out and I don't have to worry about that for awile, I'll be fine.  Then I can concentrate on the rotten foam on my vent system, the rotten carpet, the stain on my new top, the......

Rick thinks it's the clutch that needs to be replaced.  Had to take it instead to one of Mark's friends at work who is the mechanic for the plant.  He owed Mark a favor, so we called it in big time.  He's known as a really good mechanic and we had to talk him into accepting $100 to work on it.  We needed the break, so we're glad it worked out.  He's starting on it today, so we'll see once he gets it torn down.

Thats the kind of prices I'm talking about! Now you should really feel like a member of the gang... or does that come after the 2nd or 3rd time you fix the same thing for a really good price!

Everyone says "Do it right, do it once and pay once." I say what fun is that? Thats how you lose touch with your vehicle. If I wanted a car to run right and run well, I'd buy a 2007 Nissan Frontier....er... oh yeah- I did

What fun is it to do it once?  Every now and then I like to drive it somewhere and not have to worry about  getting the dang thing back  home. Thats why I drive a Volvo. At least I have better odds. When you get my age all will be revealed and you and won't need to mash the "Help !! I have broken down again and I can't get it in gear" panic button thats on a rope around your neck.

  And by the way, I've always made it back home . . . eventually.

You know you won't ever win the "VW Story of the Month" trophy with an attitude like that don't you?  Some of the most interesting people I've ever met, I met broke down on the side of the road 100+ miles from home.     And by the way, I've always made it back home . . . eventually.

And in this day and time you would be sitting on the side of the road in the middle of the night with your hands in the air while a bunch of "Dunderheads" start to have a relationship with your billfold and other stuff, camera, cellphone etc. Bottom line here is if you are driving something that ain't up to snuff, carry a really big gun and know how to use it. You could use it to defend yourself or you could put your "Ride" out of its misery.
