Did anybody see the article on the new Jetta in the Chatt. paper a couple of weeks ago where the Exc.Vice Pres. of VWoA, while praising all the wonderful things about the new VW Corolla "whoops" I mean Jetta called our beloved Bugs and Vans : Quirky Little Cars and  Boxes ? Sure the new cars  have a/c and heat, but they also have $1300 brake jobs, $500-600 timing belt replacement cost(TDI) How about a $12,000 transmission on your 4WD SUV. Yep ! They improved them all right.  If it had not been for those "Quirky Little Cars and Boxes" Mr Vice Pres. would not have a job with VW ( with his attitude it might not have been a bad thing) and possibly VWAG would have gone the way of the ME-109 and Tiger Tank.
OK, This my "RANT" of the week.

I wonder how well one of those new Jetta's would hold up in the north African desert in war time . . . or how well one would hold up in an expedition of Anartica.  They were a little "Quirky" and they were "Little" and the bus is more or less a "Box" . . . but:

How many 30-35 year old (70-75) VWs do you see on the road?
How many 20-25 year old (80-85) VWs do you see on the road?
How many 2000-2005 VWs do will think will be on the road in 20 years?
How many of the current VWs will still be in production in pretty much the same form for the next 60+ years?

I'll just keep driving my quirky little box.  Someday I'll drive it up to VWoA headquarters and let it leak a little oil in their parking lot.  I bet they forgot that those quirky little boxes leaked oil.

Oh, beware the primed pump. When the New Beetle first came out, the first one I got to look at was at Al Johnson in Dalton. Not giving Al any crap, because I get a lot of parts there. Well there was this cocky little salesman that came up to me after I had been looking at it a while and wanted to sell me the car. I asked him, "you know whats wrong with this car?" his reply was "we know, we know...the engine is in the front". I told him that no, that didnt bother me, that it was that they wanted $25,000 for the car. I told him that the Beetle was supposed to be a car that the common working man could afford. Well he bowed up and said "well if you compare the technology and quality of this car compared to that old Beetle then it is understandable" After standing there a minute, I looked at him and told him that if that car was still on the road in 40 or 50 years like the old Beetle was then we would talk....then I left. Now, I know that this was one person trying to sell me a car, but it seems that his attitude is the same as VWOA and its the same way that I look at a lot of women.......I just dont get it!!!!!!
