Its hard to find any information on those items because of the huge collector market and people wanting to know where they were built. Google only wants to direct me to ebay. Hows about telling us what happened to these two companies that I know very little of!

Here's what I know . . . Chris Craft used to build boats (BIG boats) in a building that had once been a spinning mill on the corner of Dodds Ave. and East 34th St.  They started building them there right after WWII.  I used to admire the big boats sitting in the back lot anytime I went down Dodds Ave.  The first time I saw them would have been 1970 or 71 (we moved to LaFayette in late 1970 - I was 10).  A few years later (probably 73  or 74) I started seeing folks with picket signs in that area.  Sometime in 1975 the people with picket signs and the boats vanished.  Chris Craft still builds boats in the US . . . but hasn't built them in Chattanooga since 1975.

I know a little less about Cavilier.  I know that there are a lot of old Cavilier vending machines that are worth a small forutune.  I know at one time they built vending machines in Chattanooga.  I was supervising at Synthetic Industries in the late 80s and got a new employee on my shift that we later found out was on strike from Cavilier.  She was a troublemaker from the time she showed up until she was escorted off our property by one of Walker County's finest.  I went to a Lookouts game at Engle Stadium once and saw folks with picket signs with bad stuff about Cavilier written on them.  Cavilier doesn't make vending machines in Chattanooga anymore.

You draw your own conclusions.  All I know are the facts.  Stuff being made and good paying jobs are scared of people with picket signs.  When one shows up, the other tends to leave.

what happens to the lease program if the UAW gets in. The UAW usually only drives American made cars (Buy Union- Buy American). I guess the Passat is technically American made, but all of the other cars in the lease program aren't. So that means that everyone will be voting away that luxury.  :-\

Another FACT I would like to point out.  Detroit, Michigan was once the center of the American Auto Manufacturing.  Most Autoworkers joined the UAW.  Go to Google Maps, and use "Street View" to take a tour of Detroit today.  You are free to draw your own conclusions.   :-X

Oh... I've been to Detroit a few times... matter of fact, I go every year! What a crap-hole! I don't think it has been all the UAW's fault because that is a miserable climate to live and work in. I'm sure the highly unionized climate doesn't help with business either.

Another FACT.  The UWA donates millions of dollars per year to political campains.  Many of the SORRY @$$ folks in D.C. today got there on UWA money.  If you are in the UWA, you finacially support the campains of these folks whether you like it or not.  I've always wondered . . . Do the UWA members get to vote on which of these politicians the union supports . . . or do a few rich folks at the top make the decisions for everyone.  I would hope it's the first, since you join a union to try to get a "collective" voice.

And or course, before the vote closed yesterday, our President had to chime in.

Quote
Obama said everyone was in favor of the UAW representing Volkswagen except for local politicians who “are more concerned about German shareholders than American workers,” said a Democratic aide who attended the meeting with Democratic lawmakers in the House of Representatives, according to Reuters.

And by "Everyone" he meant "Everyone who worships me."  Excuse me.  Didn't mean to stir the political pot.  Strike that from the record.   ::)

I'm really glad they voted against. I hope they can work out the works council but I'm glad that the UAW isn't going to infect it. I'm really surprised. I thought that it was be a win by votes or a win by force. I was fully expecting that they would have won one way or another.
