That's an expensive lesson.  You have to be careful anytime you buy a vehicle anywhere . . . but you have to be especially careful when you buy and old VW in GA.  Most of the time, they won't have a title since they aren't required for anything before 1986.  Before you go spending thousands of dollars restoring it, make SURE you really own it!

For this exact reason, i have made sure that i have a clear title in my name, delivered to my doorstep before starting any work on an old car.
