VW Trends

« on: May 24, 2004, 11:21:55 PM »
If you haven't seen the July 2004 issue of VW Trends and/or haven't been following the Southeastern VW Forum on shoptalkforums.com, you need to hear about this.

At the very top of the cover of the July issue is "Speed and Power - VWT'S Southeast Dyno Day."  On pages 60-63 there is an article written by Kathy Jacobs about the "Southeast Dyno Day & Silver Dollar Showdown."  The first sentence on page 61 states "March 6, 2004, was the date and Allspeed imports was the place for the Southeast installation of VW Trend's Dyno Day."  Three paragraphs down the page it states "Dyno Day sponsors: VW Trends, Raby's Aircooled Technology, Pro Flow Performance, West Coast Metric . . . "

Now, here's what you need to know: VW Trends had nothing whatsoever to do with sponsoring or hosting this event!  The apparently expressed an interest in sponsoring it in the beginning, but then backed out when they figured out they didn't have enough time to promote it in their magazine ahead of time.  The BK Cruisers planned it, got sponsors, had shirts printed, promoted it, etc., etc., etc.  Then, the event was covered by Hot VWs which apparently ticked off Trends "editor" Ryan Price since the whole thing was "his idea" and since "Dyno Day" is copyrighted by VW Trends.  So when Kathy submitted her article, Mr. Price took it upon himself to "add" the "fact" that this was a "VW Trends Sponsored Event."

Needless to say, the BK Cruisers are P!$$%D OFF!  Several of them have even decided to attend the VW Classic next month to confront Mr. Price in person, since he refuses to post a retraction and feels like he and his magazine are the parties who have been wronged!

If the fact the magazine stinks wasn't enough for you, this should be a good reason to drop your subscription and never purchase one from a newsstand again . . . or at least until Ryan Price is out of the picture.

Hey Charles,

You would be surprised at just how much support you DO have. Good Luck out there and have a safe trip. Be sure and let us know what kinda excuses they give and how much "crawfishing" Mr. Price does.

Hello all!

Well Mr. Price was a NO show! But we did meet up with Ron Gonazales (sales manager primedia) on Fri at the DKP. he said he would talk with us in private over the weekend.
But we didn't recieve a call...

So we had our eyes open for him at the classic, found him!!
He did do some grawfishing, Said Ryan was on Vac.
Didn't really give us an answer to many of our questions, cept they would print a retraction in next months VWT's,from Kathy unedited!!!!... or the next issue. ???  and asked if there was anything else that they could do? (ROF) we asked how bout a new editer????

Ron >>>>>>Grawfishing now!!

So all we asked for was a retraction and not in fine print! (didn't look like we would get much more!) he gave us his word. so this will be the only forum I will post it on till we see how his word is.

Not what we wanted ,but what we exspected after talking with other folks that has been raped by the trends editer.

Time will tell!!

so keep your eyes peeled for the "we screwed up statement"

Thanks again for your support!

So the editor of VW Trends goes on vacation and misses the biggest VW event of the year!?!  That in its self says a lot about what's wrong at "Trends."

I think he was going to spend the week in Oz.  I can here it now . . . as the Yellow Cab drives him down the Yellow Brick Road he's probably singing:

(sung to the tune of the Scarecrow's "If I Only Had A Brain)

"I could do my job and edit,
and not try to steal all the credit,
give credit where it's due.

My fingers would be write'n
stuff my readers would be like'n
If I only had a clue!"

 :D      :D
