If you haven't seen the July 2004 issue of VW Trends and/or haven't been following the Southeastern VW Forum on shoptalkforums.com, you need to hear about this.
At the very top of the cover of the July issue is "Speed and Power - VWT'S Southeast Dyno Day." On pages 60-63 there is an article written by Kathy Jacobs about the "Southeast Dyno Day & Silver Dollar Showdown." The first sentence on page 61 states "March 6, 2004, was the date and Allspeed imports was the place for the Southeast installation of VW Trend's Dyno Day." Three paragraphs down the page it states "Dyno Day sponsors: VW Trends, Raby's Aircooled Technology, Pro Flow Performance, West Coast Metric . . . "
Now, here's what you need to know: VW Trends had nothing whatsoever to do with sponsoring or hosting this event! The apparently expressed an interest in sponsoring it in the beginning, but then backed out when they figured out they didn't have enough time to promote it in their magazine ahead of time. The BK Cruisers planned it, got sponsors, had shirts printed, promoted it, etc., etc., etc. Then, the event was covered by Hot VWs which apparently ticked off Trends "editor" Ryan Price since the whole thing was "his idea" and since "Dyno Day" is copyrighted by VW Trends. So when Kathy submitted her article, Mr. Price took it upon himself to "add" the "fact" that this was a "VW Trends Sponsored Event."
Needless to say, the BK Cruisers are P!$$%D OFF! Several of them have even decided to attend the VW Classic next month to confront Mr. Price in person, since he refuses to post a retraction and feels like he and his magazine are the parties who have been wronged!
If the fact the magazine stinks wasn't enough for you, this should be a good reason to drop your subscription and never purchase one from a newsstand again . . . or at least until Ryan Price is out of the picture.
