VW sightings

« on: March 08, 2005, 07:54:52 AM »
Has anyone else seen the TV commercial for some brand of submarine sandwich that features a bright kelly green aircooled beetle? There is also a commercial for another product that starts out with a family on vacation driving an old VW Bus. Alas, I wasn't paying attention to what they were advertising, rather I was looking at the bus so I don't know what it was advertising.

I've seen the commercial where the guy puts the sandwich on top of his car and the sandwich melts all the show off and from around it but I haven't seen the one with the bus in it. :(

Man, that's one M&M green Beetle!  8-spoke Empis, custom door panels, wood steering wheel.  Nice.

 Yeah, I think it was the green paint that melted the snow . . . not the Subway sandwich!

I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and the VERY next commercial was one featuring a SPLIT WINDOW BUS!  I don't remember what the bus commercial was about.  It seems like it had a two tone paint job, but no deluxe trim and I remember for sure that it didn't have an emblem on the nose.

Euro Buses

I caught an old Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida film last night called "Come September." It was set in Italy and there were numerous scenes where a "bus" of somekind was used. It did not have a VW emblem on them but they looked like what I would imagine a european knockoff of a VW bus would look like. Does anyone know what kind of vehicles these might have been?

New Commercial w/ Bus

There is a new commercial on that features a Blue/White bus. I believe the commercial is for an insurance company. State Farm I think but I could be wrong - I was more engrossed in watching the bus than the commercial.

I was flipping through the channels and stopped on ch. 132, Noggin (6am to 6pm, for preschoolers with no commercials; from 6pm to 6am, for teens).  Anyway, it was during the "teen" time period and there was a commercial that showed a family in an old split bus singing a "family travel song" like 100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall or something.  Then it phased to a new mini-van with the whole family bored to tears.  Then they purchased an MP3 player for the teenage girl, a DVD player for the younger kids, and something or other for the adults.  The family was instantly happier.  It ended back in the splittie with the first happy family.  I think it was for Best Buy or Circuit City or the like.

There's a Ditech.com commercial where the bank loan guy is driving a red Beetle convertible. A race car or something pulls up beside him, I only saw a little bit of it.

I saw that one for the first time tonight. It is a red Super Beetle (curved windshield). Not sure what year though.

The commercial with the split window bus where the family is singing is a Radio Shack / Sprint Phone commercial.

A few months ago, I caught a old Jimmy Stewart movie called " The man who knew To Much"  Flimed in Morocco I belive. The bad guys had kidnaped his young son, etc, etc, One shot was taken in some town square where there were Split  and Oval window bugs riding around everywhere and also parked. Pretty neat !!

Have you ever seen the old WWII movie Castle Keep?  It's got a couple of neat KDF Wagen scenes in it.
