VW in the News

« on: April 16, 2006, 10:56:11 PM »
Do any of you ever look at the VW News links on the homepage?  I don't read it every day, but from time to time I'll click on it and read the headlines.  After reading this one, all I can do is wonder . . . what will VW (the company) be ten years from now?  It's bad enough that they dropped the Eurovan leaving them without a Van in the US market for the first time in 50 years . . . now they going to get Chrysler to build one for them?  :pukeright: Well, if nothing else, it'll make our "REAL" VW "vans" more valuble.

Well thats a switch !    I don't know if anyone has notice, but Dodge hasn't built a full blown van in several years .Just a mini-van. Freight-Liner,the big truck guys are owned by Daimler-Chrysler and they imported a Dodge size van sold under the Freight-Liner name which was a Benz built unit. Now they are sold here at the Dodge dealers as a Dodge "Sprinter".
And now Daimler-Chrysler want to build a VW van ??  They just need to rebadge the "Sprinter" as a VW.
I drove a "Sprinter" for a day about a year ago and those "critters" are wonderful . 5 cly. Turbo-Diesel, automatic tranny. 27-30 mpg, a/c and will give a VR-6 Euro-van a run for its money in a drag race. You can "U" turn the thing on a 2 lane without leaving the pavement. They come in 3 wheel bases , 2 height sizes. 18inch entry level on the back doors. On the "High-Roof models ,I can walk the full lenght from rear to the drivers seat without ducking.( I'm 6' 3)  10,000 mile service intervals, 100,000 warr. There is also a lot of extra goodies you can add. Drives like a car. Lets see VW build something this good. I don't belive they can. I still say that VW has lost its way.
