I guess what I meant to say was:

Wally's was better than anything we have tried out since leaving there.  I did like the buffet...it was all I ever got.
I do remember abstaining from any vote there was considering leaving...I think that I had grown accustomed to its face.  Nanner puddin!
I really don't b@%&h about food unless it is totally awful...as well as the service.

I think it was Anthony I overheard saying something to the effect of, "They went up on the price, but at least they did give us less to choose from."

Looks like I brought the can opener for this can of worms!
Did anyone ask anyone at the Country Place why the change? Could this just be a misunderstanding?

I'm afraid we've been following the "grass is greener" philosophy lately.  I understand why many folks were upset with Wally's, but now I am seeing that there's really no perfect place and some are much worse! I just hate to see us move too often and lose members and visitors just because they can't find us. I'm not married to Wally's in particular, and I'm not going to start the Green Westy Volks Folks club :puke:  :alien:  :glasses8:

or anything if we wind up at Ryan's, but Wally's seems like a good compromise of buffet, menu for those who aren't that hungry, location, etc. and I think that's the best we can hope for-a good compromise.

...going to start the Green Westy Volks Folks club...

Hmm.... :-k  :inlove:

Just think of it, a club of at least 6.  Think of the power we could wield.

Back on track...wherever/whenever...I'll be there.

Hummm . . .  :-k

OK, lets get this conversation back on track.  I started it out in the wrong direction.

I'm not really that concerned about our core group of active members!  I know all of you will be there no matter how bad the food and service gets and when it's too much, you'll just stop and get a bag Krystals on the way, or wait and eat when you get home.  We can depend on y'all to be there through thick and thin.  Since the beginning, y'all have proven that.  There are VERY FEW organizations like ours that have held together more than a couple of years, and we are working on 8 years.  I have no doubt that we'll still be around in another 8 years.  With that said . . .

What I'm really looking for is not what everyone's gripes about the Country Place are . . . I've been there every time.  I know.

I know what the gripes were at Shoney's and Wally's before that as well.  I will talk with the manager at the Country Place before our next meeting and see if they are willing to work with us to resolve some of our issues.

Like Anthony said, there is no "perfect" meeting place.  The gripes and complaints we had with Wally's were basically the same ones we had at Shoney's and now Country Place (although Shoney's was by far the worst of the three) . . . the gripes are mostly based on the quality of the food, the price and the service.

What I really want to know is first and formost . . . is it bad enough that we MUST change locations?  If not, fine.  If so, let's not rush to go back to a place we've already voted to leave until we've all put our heads together and come up with a "closer to perfect" solution to our problem.

I've worked on a few "Rapid Improvement" teams at work.  The team is given a specific area to improve . . . it may be anything from reducing waste or downtime on a particular machine, improving flow of material through a process, or even things like streamlining the process of hiring and training a new teammate.  The first step the team does is sit down a group and come up with the "Perfect State."  If the time, money, and work needed to get us there didn't matter, what would the perfect state of this process be?  Everyone has to voice his or her opinion and everyone's opinion has to be treated with respect.  As a TEAM, the team has to write up the Perfect State.  Once that's down on paper, they look at the "Current State."  While we will probably never achieve the Perfect State, if we know what the Perfect State is and we know where we are today, only then can we begin our journey towards that Perfect State.

So for now, rather than worrying about whether or not we need to move, let's put together a "Perfect State" for our meeting.  Whatever that Perfect State turns out to be and whatever direction we take to get there, let's do it as a TEAM.  PLEASE!

I'll throw out some questions to get us started . . .

We currently meet on Monday evenings.  Is there a better day and time?

Since May of 2000 we have met in a restaurant.  Do we have to meet in a restaurant?  If we don't meet at a restaurant, does food have to be served?

If you were a first time visitor to one of our meetings, what would you want to get out of it?  What would make you want to come back?  How can we best address those issues?

As a long time member, what do you really want to get out of the meetings?  How can we best address those issues?

8-[  I guess what I'm trying to say is, let's not pull up anchor and run back to the "lesser of the evils" only to be having this same conversation a few months down the road.  If we do need to move, let's work as a team and find the time, place, and format that best suits our needs.  That may end up being staying where we are . . . it may be moving back to Wally's . . . but I really don't think it'll end up being either one of them!

So there's our challenge.  Over the next week, everyone post their idea of a "perfect" meeting (time, place, format etc.).  We'll work together from there.

I have been held captive in Charleston SC for the last 5 weeks or so, but Teena made my bail so now I'm back.

I have to say I agree with Herb and Zen, I had the feeling that everybody wanted a change from Wally's

As far as the Country Place is concerned, Teena and I eat before coming to the meetings because we think the food is just awful and too expensive, but we did not stop coming to the meetings we just worked it out.

I really don't care where we meet but I can tell you from experience that having a covered dish is a pain in the neck, or lower, lots of cooking, cleaning and to some degree expensive.

No matter what the club decides to do, not everyone will be happy.

You know what they say(whoever they are): You can make some of the people happy some of the time, but you can't make all the people happy all the time.

If it gets to the point where I dread coming to the meetings, I will either do lots and lots of drugs or quit coming to them

I don't know if this would be a viable solution or not but I know another local car club has their meetings at a different location each month in order to make it more accessible to their members coming from opposite sides of the area. That makes it so that members who live in the north of the Hamilton County or Cleveland will have it closer one time and then the next month people in Lafayette and Dade, even Kimball and Dalton would have it closer to them. Of course doing it that way might make it more difficult to keep up with and promote. Just trying to think outside the box a little bit.

The only problem with that is keeping everyone informed of where the meeting will be from month to month.  Consistency of date, time and place is important for those who float in and out.

I like the idea of meeting on a Monday night because it helps keep the weekends open for attendance at shows.

We plan to eat before attending the meeting also but the concern of that is how many people do we need to eat from the buffet to continue getting the room? Country Place does seem to be pretty centrally located for everyone and they do have a good meeting room.

Just my thoughts... :)

That's the last meal I buy at Country Place. Cold everything, thawed chicken strips from Sam's that are more than half breading, cake with no icing or topping (?), all for my hard-earned $10. Oh yeah, it wasn't ready till after 7. I don't care if we keep meeting there, but if they ask me why we walk in with a Krystal sack next month, I won't be afraid to tell them. :x
PS-the pudding was good. :)
