Q. What is Vegan In A VW?

A.   Vegan In A VW is two vegans who will be travelling across North America in a Volkswagon Van promoting vegan cooking. Vegan In a VW was conceived as a forum for the promotion and discussion of what we call the "veggie lifestyle".

Q. What does Vegan In A VW hope to accomplish?

A.   The main goal is to show that vegan cooking is not only healthy and easy, but also fun! Using vegetables, legumes, whole grains and fruit, the on-line cooking demonstrations and in-house workshops will show you how easy it is to make the transition to a less violent diet.

Q. Who are "We"?

A.   In the fall of 1998, Rob Sinclair left his job at a local computer company. Presented with an opportunity for change, he wanted to embark on a project that was close to his core belief system. He headed for the mountains for a few days of solitude (in the VW of course) and came up with a list of his likes and dislikes, what he valued and what he needed to simplify. After a month of developing the idea and processing the data, 'Vegan In A VW' was born. It gave Rob an ideal opportunity to combine the skills he'd acquired in the computer industry (having at one time owned his own web development company) with his life long passion for cooking. He has also been a vegan/vegetarian for over seven years and had been looking for a way to promote this healthful lifestyle.

Rob admits the initial change to vegetarianism was not easy, thinking back to questions such as "what do I eat?" and "what's to be done with tofu?" Growing up in a family of ex-farmers presented it's own challenges as well. He found it difficult to explain his logic for not wanting to eat meat, but eventually they came to understand his choice. His mom has been especially helpful in preparing mostly vegan holiday dinners and her chickpea roast (mmm...). His dad has more recently come around and refers to it as "your food", though he quite enjoys the vegan dim sum at a local Buddhist restaurant. If Rob can share his experience and help people understand how easy and fun it is to become a vegan/vegetarian, he will feel that he's accomplishing something worthwhile.

I do. They are these wonderful creations of soy and other unknown grains formed into the shape of a hot dog, packed into a can with water, and sold at the store for your meatless enjoyment.
