If you don't pay attention to the "Today in VW History" box on the homepage, there are two important events listed:

February 17, 1972: VW Beetle overtakes Ford's Model 'T' as the most popular car ever made as the 15,007,034th Beetle rolls off the assembly line.

February 17, 1998: A group of 12 VW enthusiasts gathered at VW of Chattanooga at the invitation of then General Manager George Edrington. At the second meeting in March, the group named themselves the Scenic City Volks Folks.

I for one am very glad that the "group of 12" had that meeting. Thank you for getting a great club off the ground.

Here are the ones I can remember that I "think" were at the first meeting:

Frank and Kathy . . . can't remember their last name right off hand . . . McDevitt??  Something like that . . .

Stuart and Robin Neal

Eldon Eskridge (I think he was there, but it might have been the second meeting befoe he showed up)

Travis (aka GoBusGo) might have been there too.  I know he played a big part in the "early days" but I can't remember for sure if he was there at the first meeting or if it was the second one when he joined.  Travis?

Joy and Justin were there for the start of the meeting.  I showed up about 10 minutes late . . .

There were a few others there that either never came back or only showed up a few more times.  By the time we did our first "Show and Shine" in July of 98 there were a lot folks involved that are still around.  If anyone has one of our original newsletters, I think all the names of new members were listed in them for the first few months.  George Edrington's wife did the newsletter for us for the first year or so.  George just joined the forums the other day . . .. maybe he still has access to the files.

The earliest newsletter I have is from October 2000. If anyone has any that aren't on http://www.volksfolks.org/newsletters/ let me know so I can scan them and get them up there.
