I know.  I didn't want to offend anybody with what I really meant to say. You know how SOME people react.  Hey!! I didn't know that LaFayette(The Triangle) had a song written about it. I think in the '40's  ;D ;D  I think the first line was " pardon me Roy, Is that the SMELLY cat that chew'd your new shoes" ??? ???
Fixed it for ya!

I figured it was him, but when Zen made his puns, I knew it was.

This is a sad country indeed... anyone ever watch Jay Walking with Jay Leno? They don't know much at all...

Well , who was it . Anybody can say "I knew it all the time".   Next question ,Who was the founding  father that originally made that statement  ??

It would have to be another inventor- the one who invented glasses. His quote more closely resembles the one you quoted. Edison said there were 1,000 steps in inventing the lightbulb.

I don't think anybody has ever figured out who actually made the first pair of eyeglasses . One of life's mystery's I guess. A lot of folks from the 1300's up claimed they did but who  knows.

Is thomas edison a founding father?  He's the guy who killed my favorite elephant with electricity.  What a jerk...   Who the heck would know what Edison said?  All this talk about schools and folks being numbskulls.  Its a not even a very interesting quote.  This rant has me bamboozeled.   SC   I  did enjoy the smelly animation.

Depends on how you look at it. I'm sure he founded something, and I think he had kids . . .

I knew the answer, I just didn't want to spoil it for Smelly_Cat.
Russ, I'm curious . How did you know the answer ?  School, internet, reading books etc.  I wonder how many kids know what books are this day and time ?   We will wait for SmellyCat.

Honestly I'm not sure but I have heard the quote attributed to Edison before. Don't let my youth and good looks fool you; I'm fairly "learned" and I've been to college!

Now a quiz for you. Who said this? No Googling.

While water can be used as a magnifier it would be a bit difficult to fashion a pair of glasses from it.

According to Wikipedia:

The earliest evidence of "a magnifying device, a convex lens forming a magnified image" was Aristophanes' "lens", from 424 BC, a glass globe filled with water. (Seneca wrote that it could be used to read letters "no matter how small or dim"). Roger Bacon described the properties of magnifying glass in 13th-century England. Eyeglasses were developed in 13th-century Italy.[

Edison was not a founding father. And by a lot of accounts, he was kind of a jerk too. In addition to trying to discredit Tesla's AC power distribution system by publicly electrocuting animals, he held a virtual monopoly on the motion picture industry during its early days, seeing as how he had patents on all the technology and sued anyone who didn't license it from his company. In fact the whole reason we have Hollywood is a bunch of independent filmmakers started studios out west, as far away from Edison as they could get to produce their movies.

Edison was also a very close friend of Henry Ford, another jerk . You are very correct on every point you just posted.
