There's my teacup...

« on: June 08, 2015, 11:19:19 PM »
Do you ever get the feeling like: the worst thing that could happen today is.... ?
And then, it happens!

I've heard about having to cut yard to get to the VW, but not trim the tree.
Looks like I've got an early morning.

The light of day has revealed a bit more.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience on banging out big dents?

Totally blows. I had a branch fall and bust out trixie's windshield on Christmas Eve Eve in 2013. I was fortunate that it only damaged the glass and the wiper arm, but it could have been much worse.

I think I have a chance to borrow a porta-power which might help pull the rear edge back up. We can try it this week if you want.

Take the headliner out and just push up.
The pop will scare you to death.
You may have a small crease that will not come out, you will just have to deal with it or look into skimming it.  I have knocked out A LOT of dents in busses with some old Oak pieces 3/4" x 2.5" that I had from when I did wood working, that and a rubber mallet are my tools of choice.  I cut the radius I need into the wood and just gently "feel" my way through the dent. RARELY I will have a helper hold the wood while I will take a blandishing hammer and tap (gently) from the other side to work out a crease.  Most of the time I look at it and say Bingo, close enough and go with it.  Have reworked many VW's in my heyday.
