I've read a few articles about finding the highest cetane levels possible for the health of your TDI. Most say that it costs a little more to buy diesel with a higher cetane level, but fuel economy is better, which makes it cheaper. I just filled my tank for the first time, and there weren't any cetane markings on the pump (Exxon at exit 20 in Cleveland). Where is YOUR preferred fill up spot?

Any TDI power users out there? I'm also interested in discussing additives. Do you add to every tank, or every other, or... I drive 140 miles per day, I'd like to maximize the health of my JSW along with great mpg savings. I'm driving my first VW—first diesel, and like to be as informed as possible.

Thanks!

I've never seen on any pump where the cetane level is marked. I usually try to find it wherever it's the cheapest. An app like GasBuddy can help with that. Generally the best diesel will be at a station that does a lot of volume, like one off the interstate where truckers refuel. It will be freshest there vs. a tiny station in town that doesn't sell as much diesel.

The Murphy Express on Lee Hwy at 153 (in front of T-Mobile) usually has it the cheapest. Right now it's $3.01!

You can use a diesel fuel supplement to boost cetane and help keep your pump and injectors clean. Power Service makes a couple. In the wintertime, use the white bottle because it also has an anti-geling agent. In the summer, get the silver bottle which claims to boost your MPG but I have not noticed a significant improvement.

On an older car like mine, running additive on every tank probably helps more to prolong the life of the pump. In a newer car like yours, every other tank is probably sufficient but if you're driving a lot of miles every tank wouldn't hurt.

Minimum requirements for fuel stations on #2 diesel are 40 cetane rating. That will be derived from the r+m/2 method.

I personally haven't seen #1 diesel in Chattanooga. But I don't go searching often either.

I would use an additive like power services cetane booster it will move #2 diesel to #1 rating.  If you had a little older diesel I would suggest for cost efficiency to buy a case of the cheapest atf from the parts store and put 1qt in per tank.  But you have a dpf and this will cause it to clog faster.

If by chance you decide to delete your dpf and want/need a tune for that come see me we are a Malone tuning software dealer.
