Sunray Bugs in Dade City, FL

« on: December 10, 2011, 09:37:14 AM »
I just saw a post on facebook that Sunray Bugs in Dade City, FL is closing their junk yard and next week all of their cars are going to the crusher.  Anthony, Travis Barefoot and myself had the privalige to wander around this yard for two or three hours about 10 years ago when we went down to FL Bug Jam.  There were lots of split window buses and trucks there . . . some had been there so long that trees were growing through them, but still, there were tons of rare parts.  This time next week they will all be scrap metal.  :(

Are they really going to crush all of them? There was something simiular happening in europe the last year, but that time almost every single car was sold on an auction day?! By now, everybody knows that vdubs are not worthless anymore, I would think?
Especially with the hugh Bus boom??

From what I understand, the city government has given him a very short time to bring the junk yard "up to code" or get rid of all the vehicles.  His only real choice is to get rid of them . . . and get rid of them quickly.

OK, it's not the city, it's Pasco County that is behind this.  There's some pictures here:  http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2011/12/13/save-these-bugs-dade-city-florida/?refer=news

Here's an online album with a bunch of pics from the yard.  Most of these are probably already gone.  http://fotohaus42.zenfolio.com/p903145941

I saw at least a couple four-tab hoods I definitely could have used.
