STOLEN GHIA - karmann ghia stolen, police worthless

« on: January 17, 2004, 10:33:31 PM »
Ok, I am new here (trying to find the right eyes and ears to find my ghia)  and very stressed!! Police said to write it off! But I know there is a specific market for these cars...

Please put out a '67 Karmann Ghia was stolen! Mine! It was at my parents house in Atlanta, GA. I have had it for 15 years and my dad and I did a lot of work on it throughout my time in high school. The engine was blown in it (I like to go fast).

If anyone hears of one for sale please let me know!! I have not driven it in years, but it was always gonna be there for me to go back to one day and I have cried and now I am simply MAD!!
It had original paint, but needed painted. Again, if any one hears anything please let me know. VIN is out as stolen on it.

Heartbroken in Atlanta!

Anything specific to look for that would help us recognize it?

It was Maroon - some rusting on the roof and hood. The floor pan is solid, my dad and I fixed that in 89.
The radio wasn't stock, put a tape deck in '89, also I had hit a curb and there was a bad dent between the bottom of the car and the driver's door almost the length of the door. My dad thinks we had put different speakers in too. The heat vent behind the drivers seat was messed up and would burn your bottom too.
Honestly I totaled a 74 Ghia that same year so some stuff we don't remember if we had done to which car.
Oh yeah, there was a hole in the dash board (still have replacement in his building). I was the second owner I found out last night and the original manual and sale receipt were in the glove box.
Thanks

Most likely, it was picked up by a wrecker. Did any of your neighbors see anything like that? Was it sitting where the police or maybe the Housing Authority would have towed it? In addition to posting your loss here and in other forums I would start by calling several or all of the wrecker services in your surrounding area. Spend some time and talk to the people in your area. Someone was bound to have seen something. You don't see a Karman Ghia going down the road everyday either being driven or towed.

Let us know what you turn up.

Good luck with the Atlanta PD. I know from experience they will not do anything more than they just have too. If you're going to find your car, you will have to find it yourself.

NO NO this was on private property in CLAYTON COUNTY on the south side of Altanta.

This was on MY FATHER'S PRIVATE LAND...not in a public lot or apartment complex!!

Someone went onto the property in the middle of the night when no one was at home. My dad has about 6 acres of land. There were actual multiple VOLKSWAGENS on the property stolen. But we are most concerned about the Karmann Ghia!!

The other ones we could care less about!!! But we want my Karmann Ghia back!!!

Thanks again
Gia

I copied your post to the Southeastern VW Forum on www.shoptalkforums.com . . . you might want to go to that post and add your description.  It's down near the bottom of the list of forums under "Specialty Clubs."  A couple of other places I'd post it would be the Karmann Ghia Forum (also on shoptalkforums) and on thesamba.com.  Give as much information as possible . . . not only about it, but about the other VWs stolen too.  If someone sees a new Ghia pop up in their neighborhood they might not think anything about it, but if several new VWs show up all at once they might take a closer look.

Do you have any pictures of it?

Just thought I would bring this post back up to the top so that it might be fresh on everyone's mind this weekend as we see lots of VW's coming to the show. Probably be painted by now, but who knows?! ???
