Sad to hear that she has no legal option to pursue or re-purchase the vehicle.  Of course, the real loser is the German who is out the $20,000.  How on earth is that right?   :?

What I'm wondering is how did it have a "clean" title, but show up as stolen?  So if a clean title doesn't show positive proof of ownership, what does?

Exactly what i am wondering..... I've had to pursue that "legal clear title" on more than one car i have owned, about to again with the ghia.  I'll just make sure i don't get a customs agent involved in any of my purchases.....
