I woke up this morning running a fever, but I'm feeling better now.  Hopefully I'll be able to make the trip.  If so, it looks like it's down to just William and myself makeing the trip tomorrow.  The weather forcast for Atlanta looks OK . . . a light breeze and a little on the cool side, but should be dry.

If anyone wants to go another weekend let me know.  I'm amost always up for a trip to the junkyard!  As SC says, "I love the smell of junk yards in the morning."   8)

I'll take a rain check on a day that I'm available (and not rainy!)

I didn't get much, but this was one of the most enjoyable trips to Pull A Part I've ever had.  We got to the Atlanta South yard this morning just before 10.  William went around the corner to try to find us one of those beat up wheelbarrows to push the tool boxes around in the yard of large, loose gravel . . . but I stepped inside and saw a sign that said "Now Renting Golf Carts"  WOOO HOOO!!!  $5 an hour, one hour minimum paid up front, extra time paid in 15 min. increments when you return.  We ended up using it for just over 2 hours, but the guy just charged us 5 bucks when we returned.  Not only did we not have to struggle with the tool boxes in a wheel barrow, it really sped up the process of getting around the yard.  2 hours with a golf cart = 5 or 6 hours walking.

Out of 21 vehicles that might have one, I found one headlight bezel that fit my truck . . . but it was for the wrong side.  I did find a very nice passenger side mirrow.  I didn't realize how much I missed that mirrow.  They had a 96 Passat . . . I got a headlight switch out of it, and laying on the front seat was a perfectly find looking stereo, already removed from the dash!  Good thing, because I forgot to take my set of radio removal keys.  William opend the back passenger side door with the only door handle left on the car.  Why was it the only one left?  Maybe because the philips screw holding it on was nearly stripped when turning it towards the left.  He stuck a screwdriver in it, turned it to the right . . . out it came!  I'll bring it Monday night.  This one even has arrows on the head showing it's left-hand thread.  I have a witness. I'm not crazy.  On 95-97 Passats, the original right side door handles are held on with left hand thread screws (but be aware that the aftermarket handles I've bought are right hand thread).  I got a couple of other small trip pieces out of the Passat.  William got a VW logo out of a late model Jetta grill.  So, we didn't buy a lot of stuff, but we had a lot of fun, and I wasn't beat to pulp when it was over.

Only problem is now I'm spoiled.  I don't think I'll ever be able to push a wheelbarrow around a junk yard again!   8)

The pullapart in Knoxville has 2 buses. A 1969 and a 73. The 69 is a tin top camper with interior. The 73 is a passenger without middle seat. Has the type 4 motor already removed. 4 bugs in various states.

Today I pulled:

All four drums for a wide five bay bus
Rear stub axles and spacers for an early bay bus
Front spindles, backing plates, hardware and bearings for early bad bus
Two 14 bus wheels- wide 5
Some trim from the early westy interior (headliner union, T channel for the cabinet doors)
A shifter extension
Rubber seat pedestal mats for a bay bus
Rear Z bed brackets to turn a passenger rear seat into a bed(not westy- the actual Z bed brackets!)
Dash air vents for a bus
Head rest plugs
3 overhead lights from the buses
Inner door handles from a '61 bug
A fuel tank sending unit from a '61 bug

A front grille off of an 84 trooper (round headlight grilles go for decent money online)
And a front passenger side headlight bezel for an early S10.

I ran out of time and steam before I could get everything I should have. It was jambed packed of good finds! The type 4 motor appeared to be a 6v pancake motor out of something. It had the small starter next to it as well. The 73 was in great shape and a near perfect interior. The 69 was a little rough, but full of good parts.

Pictures to come

Sounds like William and I should have went north instead of south yesterday . . . but did they have golf carts?   ;D

For sure a Type-3 1600cc. Looks like a duel port from what I can see. If so that makes it a '67 . Whats rare is the carbs and intakes. You could adjust these things and slam the lid and drive for a long, long time before you had to do anything.  A set of these carbs will fit great in a Bug and no problem getting to the plugs and carb adjustments. Simple to adjust(tricks). Even Nick could do it ;D

The engine wouldn't readily turn, but I didn't try too hard. The linkage on those carbs was frozen solid. I couldn't get the butterflies to open.

As for KC's guess. He was close, but not quite. My father got it first try- Year, Make Model!

That's a 61? I can't tell from the pics, did it have a 4 tab hood?
