Road Atlanta Results

Third, after gambling on running rains.  The engine ran okay for a pile of spares, but didn't have the power (because of the basically stock carb)  to run with the front runners on slicks, so I rolled the dice.  I figured I wouldn't place any better on slicks and if it rained, I'd have the advantage.  It did rain, but not quite enough for the rain tires to be any help.  Oh well, it was worth the shot!  Thanks to David for the "take the float pin out and epoxy a nickel to the bottom of the float" trick.  It stopped bogging down in the corners after I did it! :D

A BIG thank you to Village Volkswagen, my newest sponsor!

I heard from my engine builder (I like saying that) last night.  He has the engine that I used when I started until middle of two seasons ago when it burned up at Atlanta-remember swapping engines in the pits? He hinted that the engine I had might have been a bit of a pig.  He used questions like "Who built this?" and "They didn't even lighten the rocker arms."  "They made the pistons too thin and that caused them to burn through."  I told him it didn't spin much above 5500, he said "We'll fix that."  I'm looking forward to getting it back!  Sounds like I'm going to be just a little faster!

Congratulations on the new sponsor and good luck with your new engine!  Hopefully I can make it out to see you burn up the asphalt a time or two this season.

If anyone else out there ever has the chance to go watch a Formula Vee race, don't pass it up! . . . but if you go to Road Atlanta in August, take LOTS of bottles of ice water!   :D
