R&M Automotive HWY 58

« on: November 08, 2008, 07:57:07 PM »
Just thought I'd take a second to thank Rick At R&M. My friend Shawn needed some tires for the 67 I sold him. Called up Rick and got a really good deal on a set of tires. By the time we ate lunch he had them ready to go.
Fast Friendly and aircooled friendly as well. Not to many folks doing wide 5 rims these days. Thanks Rick! I highly recomend his  shop for your next tire purchase.

Thank you for the kind words and the business!! I'm gonna see about getting some more tires to replenish the dwindling stock that I have now!
Thanks again!
Rick.

what kind of prices can you do for tires for my bus? my front tires are dry rotted and look to be about 20 years old at least.

-Ditto- 2 of mine are dry rotted, the others are brand new car tires = no useie...

-Contemplating going with the 15 or 16" Merceedes wheels with a shorter sidewall truck tire mounted on them.  Has anyone else tried this?
Has rave reviews as the Large,Heavy,Heavy 1980's diesels used them, so they satisfy the load ratings for the Westy.  The web shows people driving into storm drains and such and having bent the alloys, but not having broken them.

With my Beetle's Empi 8 spokes, I am running 195 60R 15's (Goodyear Eagles - Hard to get? No one has them now....)  The Speedo is Dead on at 75MPH.
I have checked it against 2 2000+ year cars and they both said dead on at 75 mph.
Thanks,
Kc

Yeah, Rick did some maintenance on my Jetta, it's running great and the price was very reasonable. As soon as I can get the bus into the alignment shop, I'm going to take it up to Rick and let him rotate and balance the tires.

I'll second Vanco 8s for bus tires, they're the appropriate load rating, and they're German tires that are still OEM on new VWs so you can't go wrong. Ratwell's Tire FAQ also has a table of other brands that will work too. Lots of other tire resources and information on that page as well.

I've been recommending R&M to people whenever I can. It would be great to have them be a sponsor at Bug-a-Paluza 11 next year too (hint hint). ;) They've been a good supporter of our club.

Attack Chicken/Rick,
    I am looking for some tires for some 3.5 inch rims. Something like a 185/15 or similar.

Thanks
Jeff

yes, 185R14's with reinforced sidewalls is what I need. 2 please!

I just ordered a new drag-link for my steering so I'll be able to get around better once I get the new one on.... considering the old drag-link was so wore out that it swayed side-to side where it bolts to the relay arm enough to give my steeing wheel a good 6 inches of play!  :shock:

Wow, Thanks for all the responses!!  I gathered up some info and here it is;
I can get all the following tires same day;
Firestone 135r15.....$90.00
Firestone 145r15.....$93.60
Firestone 165r15.....$99.60

Nexen 165r15.....$60.00

Hankook RA08 185r14.....$77.10
I know their not Conti's but they are available locally.  The RA08 is reinforced and has a D load range(good for 1874lbs.)

For all you bus guys here is a pretty cool page showing the tires mounted to vehicles and all the load range info as well as when they were purchaced. BEWARE it is a lot of pictures!
http://www.ratwell.com/technical/TirePhotos.html

As far as other sizes, I can get just about anything...just may not be the brand name your looking for.  Otherwise I don't mind if you buy and carry in your own tires, the mount/balance price is the same for all...$10.00 ea including wide 5.  I'll see what else I can dig up!
Thanks again!
Rick.
