Rabbit Diesel: The next collectible VW?

$5225 ???

I saw and drove this car. Someone's in for a few surprises, like hail damage on the roof, frozen R.R. shock, heated air coming through the center vents, etc. not mentioned in the listing! Otherwise, kind of a time warp all-original car.

$6161! :o

Well sold! How could anyone say no to that little old lady? I'd have to come up there to "adopt" the car from her in person!

I was hoping to find a little 45 MPG beater to commute in, but not for that kind of bread!

Let's see here.....

They are old, loud, creaky, leaky, rattly, stinky, uncomfortable, slow......

I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for one.  Period.  I don't care how many miles are on one.... or how many owners there have been.... Yeah, they get good gas mileage.  That's the only reason I would even consider that.  I noticed this trend when the gas prices started going up... people are unreasonable.  Rabbit diesels that weren't worth $500 months before started fetching $3k, $4k, and more... ridiculous....  ::)

Scratch that....

$1200... and only if it runs, and has cold a/c.....

My dad had one made in Ohio.  when we bought it ,  we did not know how to get in reverse, since the shifter did not have the shift pattern..   It was funny having to push our rather new car out of parking spaces.  Seemed like the altenater bracket broke all the time from the engine shaking at idle.

Look everybody !!!!  SC's mechanical talent has been exposed . It was his DAD and the Rabbit Diesel that gave him the mechanical excellence that he uses to this day.  His Dad didn't have half as many Lady Kenmore parts on the Diesel Rabbit as SC has on Stupie. Had he had those parts all he would have had to do was punch in RINSE CYCLE and he could have backed all the way to Terre Haute  ;D ;D

Grasshopper, You forgot about engine mount by the cam cover( 90% of the engine shaking, Head gaskets by the dozens, last but not forgotten the rubber band on the front of the engine that causes all kinds  of unintentional disassembly of major engine components when they part in half.  Other than those few things ,they are a great little car ::)
