Possibly Stolen Bus - Be on the lookout for this one!

« on: June 18, 2002, 12:13:18 AM »
If there is a VW for sale anywhere within a 50 mile radius of Chattanooga, it seems like at least 2 or 3 Volks Folks hear about it, so let's keep an eye out for this bus . . .

It's a 1963 (give or take a year, I'm going by what I remember about it from when it was for sale once, I haven't talked directly to the owner) Pannel bus.  It has lots of rust on the rockers and floors and painted a dark brown camoflauge.  It looks like something I might drive!  LOL  The engine that was in it the last time I looked at it was a 1500 or 1600 single port and was missing the intake and carb, everything else was there.

I had looked at the bus a while back when it was for sale and considered buying it, but waited around to long and someone else beat me too it.  Then, I saw it a couple of months back sitting on some property just off of the Hwy. 27 Bypass around Chickamauga Battlefield.  A lady I work with lives next door and she contacted the people that owned the land, but they said it belonged to friend of their son.  One day last week the owner of the bus stopped at her house and ask if she had seen anyone leave with it, because it was gone.  He said that there is a possiblity that the land owner's might have had it moved, but he was pretty sure they would have notified him first.  So, if you see a bus for sale that fits this description please let me know and try to get that info passed on to the owner.  This might be a case of a misunderstanding between the owner of the bus and the land owner's, but it's more likley that the bus been stolen.

I KNOW you are just kidding when you mention there may be a possibility there are THEIVES in the North Georgia area. There CAN'T be. You ARE joking, aren't you?

This is one bug we have not been bitten by yet Folks. Please remember there are people who are too lazy to work for their own possessions. Keep this in mind and watch out for yourself.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!!!

This brings up a good point that all of us should probably heed (I'm well included in this) I've had planned for months now to rig myself up 2 seperate rather simple hidden kill switches in my car.  This very simple little alarm would at least slow a thief down a lot.

FYI, do NOT discuss how to's on this subject on an open forum such as this one!  Email me or anyone else about it directly but it wouldn't make much sense to give your "secret" away to the public here, now would it!

I know from my own experience that my car could be started without the key, by 2 people in less than a minute.  It's sometimes hard to fathom why someone would want to steal our cars that we feel are part of the family but they are getting more valuable folks!

I found out for sure today that this bus was stolen.  The owner's of the land where it was parked have no idea what happened to it either.  I have asked the lady I work with to get the name and # of the owner so I can post it.

Again, be on the lookout for a split window pannel bus with lots of rust and a brown camoflauge paint job.  If you see one anywhere that meets this description, please contact me.

OR possibly one with a recently applied spraycan paint job, probably just spraying over the rust.
