por15 vs Truck bed liner spray

« on: June 25, 2004, 11:53:21 AM »
Was discussing When I went to Harrell's Auto parts to get a floor pan and they said, even though they sell POR 15, they perfer using Truck bed liner spray, you can get from Wal-Mart for $5 a can. supposed to seal and get just as hard. I bought a can and tried, seems to do good, but has anyone used, read any articles the bed liner spray holds up compared to POR 15.
Thanks
Ron

For complete coverage are you willing to spend the 105.00 dollars a gallon that it will cost. You'll be able to get 25 cans. Ive never used either so i have no idea if 25 cans will do it or if one gallon would do it. I do know i have POR15 for certain area's i will be treating on my car. And that POR15 is a superior product in my opinion.

If you have existing rust, the POR15 will kill the rust where the bed liner spray won't. The bedliner spray is great for some applications but not for stopping more damage being caused by rust.

If the POR 15 does kill the rust then that would be the route to go, and use the spray only in non- rusted areas. After reading the POR 15 site, I was lead to believe that it only sealed it to, to stop any further rusting.  Again not using it before, all you can do is ask the people with first hand knowledge who has used it.
Thanks

Hello, I have used both, and IMO the POR 15 is the best all around to use, If won't crack and peel off like the bediner will
in a year or two.  I restored  a floor pan in 98 for a customer (that never came back!) that's been out in the weather everday and the pans still new new.

and a Qrt. of POR 15 is more than enough to do a pan.

My 2 cents !  Later all

There you have it!  If it's good enough for Mr. "Overspray" it's got to be the way to go!

By the way, if you've never met him or seen his work, check out Overtonsresto.com.

I've been using a product called Extend, availible from Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. with great results for years.  It's basically the same concept as POR 15.  It goes on white and turns the metal black as it dries.  Any that gets on a painted surface dries clear, so it's reacting to the rust.  I've used it to cover rusty panels that sit outside and it doesn't peel or chip.  The oldest example is a brake drum I did 12 years ago which, although it spends most of its time inside, gets BEATEN ON as a percussion instrument and has had no cracking of the finish!  It's around 5 bucks a bottle (don't get the spray, it just doesn't work as well).  I'd put it up against a $100 can of [I'm too]POR [to afford it]15 any day.

Boy!!!! Did we "Prime the Pump" or what with this topic ?
Sounds like Por-15 is the overall winner here. I have used a product called " One-Step" It was a rust killer but you couldn`t paint over it. This is sort of like the old Packard motto: " Ask The Man Who Owns(uses)One (It)
