Ok what is this worth?

« on: October 03, 2009, 05:37:36 PM »
69  westy
no windshield,  lots of air flow up front
no interior  except front seats
lots of surface rust,  tetnis shots required, pretty in a rusty sort of way
small/ medium? engine fire.    needs rewiring,
Guy said it ran and the trans was ok
Am I one of the suckers born every minute?

I was interested in it when I first saw it.  I need the hole in the roof to graft into Homer.  I called the number and the guy starts telling me how nice of a bus it was and how it just needed a little work to make it a nice bus and all about the engine and transmission . . . and then he told me what he had to get for it.    Uhmmmm . . . I just needed the hole in the roof.  I've already got a SUPER nice bus (no pun intended) to put it in.  Yes, Homer is a SUPER NICE BUS compared to this one.

Parted out, it might be worth what he's asking IF the engine and transmission are in excellent condition.  But judging by the condition of the body and the "small engine fire" thing, I wouldn't put too much faith in the condition of the drive train.  In my opinion, it's way too much for the bus as a whole.  I don't really see how you can use "It's a Westfalia Camper" as a selling point when it has no windshield, no interior and no top.

But of course, there is a sucker born every minute . . .  8)

And it was running when they parked it!  All they've done since then is removed the top, busted out the windshield, set it on fire and removed the interior.  It had good paint until the rust pushed it off the body.  And it was bought brand new down at the VW dealership!

I thought there was a drive in at save a lot Sat morning,  So I drove out there,  nobody was there but me and some folks driving K cars. So I went down the road and saw that Fab 69 westy we are talking about.   Stupie conked out when I got there and I had to push the car 20 feet to get to the service station.   I wondered why Stupie   sounded like a coffie can full of gravel.  Oh look,  the fan pulley about fell off..  Great.

But Wait.. theres more,  gas is dripping out were the throttle arm comes out the Carb.  Its a good thing that VW engines get so hot,  the gas just evaporates  when it drips on the engine.   Since I couldnt get the car restarted,  I got to look over the "Super Westy".   After I fixed the pully and messed with the gas line so the carb stopped dripping.  (Maybe the Float is sticking or something)   Off we go.

My Wife drops the kids  off at the skating rink and we skate,  about 4 oclock,  we leave and the   Drive in at Save a lot is starting.  I Park Stupie and me and the kid walk to Sears to  buy some sneakers.  When we walk back.. Stupie is surrounded,  theres a 50 cadillac and edsell station wagon and other expensive looking cars.  An there is Stupie, paint brush paint job and  leaking gas.  I did not think Allstate would cover burining 7 antique cars,  so we made a hasty retreat in a cloud of blue smoke.   SC
