Hello all,

Mike Wilson here... I currently live in Grundy, VA but I will soon be moving to Johnson City, TN. This seems to be the closest VW organization (active) near JC... So, I am thinking about joining!

If anyone knows of a closer group to Johnson City (that actually does stuff), let me know.

Anyway, Love the site... Hope to get some good tips here and to share some as well.

Welcome!  We do have a little fun here.  There is also a lot of knowledge floating around in the heads of our members that is "free for the asking".  If you like what you see here, c'mon and join us.  We won't bite!

I believe there is a club up Johnson City way...the name escapes me...no, wait, it is The Good Ole Volks...more or less in Greensboro, NC, close to Johnson City.

Welcome to the forums!

We'd be delighted to have you as a member, and I'm not trying to discourage you from joining, but Johnson City to Chattanooga is a pretty good trip . . . something like 3 - 3 1/2 hours if I remember correctly (I've only been there once).  I think the Good Ole Volks that GoBusGo mentioned actually started in Johnson City, then the new "chapter" started in Greensboro, NC and the Johnson City chapter kind'a faded away.

Even if you don't "join" the Scenic City Volks Folks, you can still hang out with us here in the forums.  Just watch out for Ret.Bugtech . . . if you abuse one of his beloved air-cooled critters he might just chunk a Dasher part or two at you.  But don't worry, he's already thrown all the heavy stuff like rods and cam shafts at me!

LOL: I'll keep that in mind...

I may join you guys anyway and only occasionally attend meetings, and try to make it to all big group events.

Seems like a good group here...

Now if I can just get my Vanagon finished (it is in about a million pieces right now)...

Hey Guy,  Jump on in here. We always welcome" fresh bodies"
Johnson City is a pretty good ways to come all the time, but you cannot miss our show in April next.  This show has turned into one super event, one of the biggest in the East . Ck the site out.
Our forum can be pretty lively at times and no one is safe here. We poke a lot of fun at each other and every once in a while something intelligent gets posted. We have a lot of van/Westy owners who have by some method massed a lot of info and tips to keep their "Critters" on the road. So if you run into a problem help is not far away.
I can promise that you will not meet any nicer bunch of VW nuts than the VolksFolks. No "Ricer mentality" here

The Greensboro, NC club is probably about four hours from Johnson City. There is however supposed to be a Good Ole Volks club in East Tennessee area but don't know anything much about it. Also, the Greensboro Good Ole Volks are extremely informal with no officers or actual meetings past a weekly drive-in at Herbie's Restaurant. Although they are good folks, I would strongly recommend you join the Scenic City Volks Folks instead - they are a  much more active club.

I sent an email to the Eastern TN "GoodOleVolks" about a month ago. No reply yet. I am assuming that they are out of commission...

I think I will go ahead and join you guys... Surely I can make it down for a meeting every couple of months...

:D Hi Mike!!! I live over 2 hours away from Chattanooga in West Georgia. My distance was one thing that kept me from joining this fine group of folks earlier. I was assured that there was no set number of meetings to attend etc for membership.Even though there is a club in my area I elected to join this club and do not regret it one bit.  I can assure you that you will not find a better bunch of folks to spend time with. As stated there is a wealth of knowledge in this club and the persons that hold it are always willing to share. By the way I AM NOT one of the knowledgeable ones!!

And as an added benefit when you become a dues paying member (I think it's $15 a year) you get a copy of the club newsletter. It's supposed to be monthly - at least that is the goal
You will also have access to our members only area on the forums once you become a member.
So membership DOES have it's priviledges!

Welcome to our Forum, Mike. As the current club Prez, I would like to extend an invitation to join us even if it's on a limited basis. Our group is very diverse as you can probably tell already. We have members ranging in ages from very young to very old. RetBugTech is as stated, retired as I am also but RetBugTech is more affectionatly know as the "Godfather". You will be required to bow and kiss the ring.     He was given this name by yours truly because I learned early on he has forgotten more about VWs than any 10 of the rest of us combined, knows. We do have other Folks who in their on right are VERY knowledgable with areas of expertise.

All in all, this is a great bunch of Folks with a lot of us considering the club a family extension and in some cases, more family than not. Even if you don't join the club, we will look forward to seeing you on the forums. Don't be a stranger.

I know how you feel, Scott... Herb? is the president?....but I think they're demanding a re-count in Florida over the whole thing.
I voted for Nader.  I don't know what the hell hapened.
And, No, Herb I will not kiss the ring as I don't know where it's been.
