Hello,
I just got my 71 Ghia convertible and quite excited that there is a VW in Chattanooga.  The car is definetely going to need some help and I know nothing about VW's.  I look forward to contributing to this forum and hopefully get some ideas re: restoration.  BTW are there good VW shops in the Chattanooga area for VW restoration / mechanical work?  Thanks in advance.
Carlos

Welcome aboard Carlos!  We have several members who own a Ghia, or have owned one in the past, so I'm sure that someone here can point you in the right direction with anything you need to do to your new (to you) VW.

As far as shops go, there aren't too many around that care to work on air-cooled VWs.  One that does work on them is Jim Lockhart on Rossville Avenue.  I can't "personally" recommend him because I've never had him work on any of my VWs, but he has been in business in the same location for many, many years and comes highly recommended by a lot of people.

The best VW mechanic I've ever met is a member of our club.  David is his name, but he's know around here as "The Godfather."  He uses the screen name "RetBugtech" and like his user name suggests, he's "retired."  But every now and then you might be able to entice him into "laying hands" on your vehicle, and he's always willing to give you advice on how to correctly do it yourself . . . and he won't even throw rocks at you the first time you don't listen to him.  He might the second time, so be careful.

Welcome to our board, Carlos. Zen pretty well covered all of your questions so just jump in and make yourself at home.

Are you aware of when we have our meetings? If not, we meet the third Monday night of each month and we are currently meeting at the China Moon Restaurant in the Eastgate Center on Brainerd Rd. Meetings start at 7pm.

:D

Greetings Carlos and welcome to the site. As a "rookie" around here myself I can tell you with no hesitation that you have arrived at the site of one of the premiere clubs in the Southeast.

I first became acquainted with the "Volks Folks" in 2001 when we attened their show. You will find as time goes by that this is truly a "family oriented" club. The few times I have been able to meet with the club was a great time. So if you are looking for a club to join for great fellowship, here it is!!!

As Zen said, there are many in the club who will be more than happy to answer your questions and lend a hand etc. So again, welcome aboard. :thumbs-up:

wassup ctorres! I got a 70 ghia vert and I'll bet mine needs more work! New to the site myself but I'd like to say welcome too. And, by the way, nevermind that whole 'help with a slow starter' thread and that 'triangle' thingy  . Post some pics of your ride.

Now look, y'all are gonn'a have to lay off that "triangle" thing.  I'm startin' to get a complex.  I'm beginning to think that there really may be something weird in the water 'round here or something.  8-[    8)

Yorlicks !!!   Do you mean there isn't anything strange about the "Triangle" ?   Has the area been cleanse by a higher power ? Has Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell passed through ?  Maybe Jim and Tammy are back together and have plans for the Triangle. I think we all should remain in a guarded stance . :-k

:-k I am not saying there is anything to this "Triangle" theory, but a friend of mine from my law enforcement days is training for his pilots license and he told me the other day that student pilots are forbidden from flying through the "Triangle".   From what I gather it is like a mini version of the "Bermuda Triangle"

I guess I will have to be more cautious when driving withing that area from now on. I would hate to be carried away by "Creatures Of The Triangle".  :alien:  :alien:

All I can say is that if Tammy came through the "Triangle" it definitely needs a cleansing. I mean with all the makeup that dripped off.

Look guys . . . ONLY ONE plane has fell out of the sky over the triangle in the past few years.  It fell straight down, nose first . . . and both people in the plane walked out of the front door unhurt.

Just imagine . . . you take off from the LaFayette International Airport in a small single engine plane . . . about 45 seconds off the runway something goes wrong . . . you bank hard and try to get to an opened field, but the plane goes into a nose dive and goes straight down through the roof of a house . . . the lady that lives there comes running into the living room . . . What do you say to her?   :-k   "We were just in the neighborhood and thought we'd drop in!" :?:

OK, maybe there is something to this "triangle" thing!
