New Midsize "sedan"

« on: January 18, 2010, 08:46:28 PM »
My old man went to Detroit for the North American International Auto Show and sent me some photos of what VW has yet to name. It seems like VW is staying tight lipped about branding this design in order to lay low until the big launch. However, the VW gurus were confirming it was near exactly what they would be building here in Chattanooga. I don't know if ya'll have seen 'em yet, but here's our new VW!

He's supposed to be getting some more photos to me.

That's not the New Midsize Sedan, that's the New Compact Coupe. It's a concept based on the New Compact Sedan, which is what will become the Mexican-built Jetta VI.

The only images of the NMS so far that have been released are concept sketches.  But it will definitely be four door.

Interesting. I wonder why they were saying it was the one that would be built in chattanooga... oh well. Upon looking at those concept sketches I could see how that sketch could yield a vehicle similar to this one. I realized its not 4 door (hence the "'s around sedan), but if you look at them side by side, they are strikingly similar....

Guess we will have to wait and see

They all share similar design elements. If you look at the new Scirocco and GTI, you can see the direction they are headed in, style-wise. I expect the NMS will be similar.

When they unveil the NMS (and marque), I expect it'll be pretty big news.

That's a cool looking car, but without a logo on it, I wouldn't have a clue who built it.  From a short distance, it looks an awful lot like a bunch of other cars on the market.  It's seems there is a trend in the auto industry to somewhere down the road to get to about 4 or 5 standard designs that they all share.  It's kind'a sad when you can't tell a Dodge from a Toyoto from a VW . . .   :?

Its easy to know the difference between a Dodge, VW and a Toyota. The Dodge has a roof rack with a box of bail-out money and a Fiat in it and the Toyota flies by you at 120mph with the brakes on fire and a driver waving his arms and screaming something about not being able stop the car. The new VW can be seen parked at the dealership waiting for back ordered warranty parts.
