If any one here that knows buses well can check craigslist add # 825480 from spirit lake iowa and tell me if it is worth my time to look at it and " maybe " get it. From the add it looks good for the price. I have the room in the garage to work on it so thats not a problem. Tell me what ya think....... Rob

Rust is a little worse than the '76 auto westy deluxe that I sold last year.
The engine can be fixed and it isn't a FI so no worries on the computer / hoses, etc.

Heck I'd say get it and find a couple of heads (EXPENSIVE) and roll it.

I have 2 busses now and am looking at a 3rd (1 is for parts.)

You could get the Creative car craft filler set for installing a beetle engine in a bus, parts are cheaper.

Good luck, VW's are WAY popular here now and busses are going up in $'s.
Get it rolling / driving - then do a cost bennifit annalasys and see if the profit ratio is worth putting the extra $'s into the rust repair and the pop top.

Lets see, $1200 for the body. $2500 for an engine.(low ball price)  Shoes don't fail me now.

Yep.  I could have went my entire life without seeing that and I would have been perfectly happy. :-&

Check underneath it and make sure there isn't any major rust in the frame, crossmembers or floor.  Any rust can be fixed (see Rick's double cab if you don't believe me), but if you can't do it yourself, major rust repair can get real expensive in a hurry!  The interior looks to be in great shape!

If you plan on doing any serious camping, I'd look for something 1974+ up. The early poptops only have a cot up there, not very large or comfortable to sleep on. The later Westys have a full bed and it's a lot nicer to sleep on.

Alot of great advice from you guys on this. I will definately check the underside of the bus when i get to go look at it. I do have a number of people here in my neighborhood that weld so rust repair will not be a big problem ( but getting them to help with it might be.... :D  ). As for the thong shot i am sorry about that. The motor issue i had already figured about putting a type one in it. I do know them better and the repaires are cheaper. There is also a 1973 bug here for $500. They said it has some rust that is " repaireable " but we would see. Also the " engine runs but has a wireing issue " the add says. I could get it and take the engine for the bus and then part out the bug to get back some of my money. Just some thoughts.
